Dark Knight Returns: Introducing Alfred

With less a week left until the film comes out on BluRay and DVD, Warner Bros. and DC has released another clip from the upcoming release of The Dark Knight Returns.  In the same fashion that each previous clip (here & here) has had this clip is low on action, but still interesting to watch.  Each clip has revealed some small aspect of this very different Gotham than we’re used to.

You may recognize Alfred as Radio Hall of Fame commentator and talk show host Michael Jackson.  Jackson previously provided the voice of the esteemed Guardian, Ganthet for the GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD KNIGHTS.

The Dark Knight Returns – Trailer

Throughout Batman’s long history a handful of stories are considered pivotal and influential, such as “The Killing Joke”, “The Long Halloween”, and the “Knightfall” series.  However, Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns” may stand head and shoulders above them all.

First released in February of 1986, “The Dark Knight Returns” was a critically acclaimed story looking at Batman and Gotham years after The Bat had retired. Now an aging recluse, Bruce is pulled back into action by the return of old enemies and then quickly met by new foes.

Peter Weller (Robocop), as previously reported, has been cast as the elderly Bat, along with Ariel Winters (Modern Family) as Robin/Carrie Kelley, Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Two-Face/Harvey Dent, Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, and David Selby (of the original Dark Shadows soap) rounds out an amazing cast we finally get to see in action today, as MTV Geek has the exclusive first trailer for  The Dark Knight Returns Part 1.

Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think of DC Comics and WB Animated’s adaptation of the story that changed everything for Batman.

Next Batman Film Release Date Announced

Next Batman Film Release Date Announced

The next installment of the Batman series directed by Christopher Nolan has an official release date. Mark your calendars for July 12, 2012. With the film not being released until over two years from now, very little details have surfaced. However, Nolan has said this about it in a LA Times interview last month:

Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story, and in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story. I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling. And it harkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That’s what we do.

He also stated that the villain will NOT be Mr. Freeze. Sorry Mr. Freeze fans if you’re out there. So who does that leave? Well it’s a long list with The Riddler definitely at the top.

Nolan to Serve as Mentor on New Superman Film

Nolan to Serve as Mentor on New Superman Film

Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow? It’s been a good couple of years since we’ve seen mention of a Superman feature film, especially after the ill-fated Superman Returns, aside from animated films like Superman: Doomsday. But it seems that Warner Bros. is already prepping the third iteration of the Superman movie franchise.

Enter Christopher Nolan, the writer/director who not only took on the Batman movie franchise after Joel Schumacher made a mockery of the Dark Knight in the mid-90′s, but rebooted and reinvigorated the franchise, giving it a darker, edgier feel that proved popular among fans and critics alike. So, with Warner Bros. deciding reboot the Superman franchise and begin anew, it’s seems like Nolan is being brought into the mix to share some of his expertise in superhero drama.

But worry not, Batman fans. Nolan isn’t attached to direct, in fact he’s hard at work penning a script for a Dark Knight sequel. Instead, Nolan is being brought aboard to serve as a sort of mentor or godfather to the Superman franchise, someone to help aid and steer the Man of Steel in the right direction. And who better? After all, Nolan has proven he knows what he’s doing with two highly successful Batman films, and I think a serious, darker Superman movie would do the character justice.
