[BAotW @ DragonCon 2010] So…Many…Cosplayers…

So, first things first- I am no cosplayer.  I am much too lazy to put together a costume, let alone take the time to make it look even acceptable.  So when I go to conventions and see the time and effort others put into their costumes, I am completely amazed.  That takes serious creativity and non-laziness which I fail to have.  But this past weekend at DragonCon I noticed a few certain cosplayers who went past the standard of costuming and made their outfits even better than the already incredible crowd. And I have to admit, the results were pretty freaking badass.

[DragonCon 2010] One More Cosplay Post from DragonCon

James, Shauna, and I have returned from the Peach State and have a decompression article coming at you very soon.  Until then, satiate your thirst for more cosplay with… well… more cosplay!  These following pictures were taken mostly at the Victorian/Steampunk Ball Sunday night and during the insanity that happened on the streets of downtown Atlanta well into the wee hours of the morning.  It should be noted that, at the same time as DragonCon, there was the opening SEC game of the season; an African-American gay and lesbian pride conference; and one of Ludakris’ downtown block parties.  No joke.  The streets were lined with mad fun!  You might also notice a few celebs that we clearly met.  Check it out after the break.

[Dr. DM @ DragonCon 2010] An Open Letter from Bob to James

Dear James:

I recently noticed that you scribed a review of the Lord of the Rings Musical seminar at the 2010 DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia.  Staying in your hotel room, I also know that you penned said review at about three in the morning after watching some Firefly.  I vaguely remember you saying, “Hey Bob.  Imma write this article now.”  And I vaguely remember me thinking, “Maybe not the best idea” but then me saying, “Yeah okay buddy!  Nighters.”  Ah, the sweet ignorance of slumber.  A place of solace where the world around you cannot exist if you so choose.

[RealTalk@DragonCon2010] Or How NOT to Run a Tolkien Seminar

So here’s the deal. I’ve been a nerd since I was very small. Very, very small. I read Heinlein when I was, seven? I know Asimov. I’m fluent in Robert Jordan. I’m legit.

But more than anything else, I know Tolkien. I do. Hardcore. I will correct your pronunciation, because I have the tapes he RECORDED BEFORE HE DIED. I have heard the man himself pronounce Elendil. I know what the Illuvatar is. I have heard, on a tape recorder from 19-freaking-80 Christopher Tolkien reading the Silmarillion. I have a F***ing signed copy, no joke. No joke.
