Time Waster: One Button Bob

One Button Bob. A simple free flash game that uses only the left mouse button.  The game makes you figure out what that button actually does.  After that, its just one the spot clicking.  Enjoy. Oh, and if you can beat my score above, post a link to your screenshot. This is another great way to prove that gameplay > graphics.

Bloons 4 is out – Kiss your productivity goodbye

Screen shot 2009-11-22 at 7.39.27 PMOne of the most mind numbing yet fun flash tower defense game out on the net has a 4th sequel.  James introduced Bloons 3 to me and some other co-workers some time ago and it was hard to put down.  But, now with new towers, new upgrades and more new tracks, it’s going to be another while till I put this game down. Damn you animated monkeys! Why must you be so adorable and fun!

To numb your mind, click here for the Ninja Kiwi.

Weekly Tech Wrap-up

wtwu

It’s that time again, time to review some of my cherry picked smaller stories of the week for those that might have missed them. This time round we’ve got an Adobe Flash update that doesn’t suck. OK, sucks a little less. Flash 10.1 beta was unleashed to the willing public with GPU video acceleration for certain Nvidia cards on Windows, but perhaps more importantly reduced CPU usage across all platforms. What does this mean? YouTube that doesn’t make your Mac or PC red-line that’s what. A step in the right direction Adobe, maybe Flash isn’t a lost cause after all. I’ve certainly seen some improvements on my netbook and Mac.

Zoom Quilt 2

Zoom Quilt 2

This is one trippy art project.  Zoom Quilt is a collaborative group art project where each artist submits their art pieces into this long looping flash movie.  The flash movie continously zooms into each art piece making it seem like you’re going through a very weird world. Check it out.

Oh, and if you’re under the influence of some “stick, icky, icky”, you’re welcome.

We are living in the future [Augmented Reality]

oherlihy-last-starfighter-sm

In the future, you can view multiple photos in one photo frame. Just you wait.

If you ever needed an example of what the future will be like, just look around you.  You’re living in it.  The TV can be watched live on the internet, you can talk to a loved one face to face while not being in the same continent, and you can call anyone, anywhere in the world, at anytime. (Unless you have AT&T).

Ever since I was kid, I’ve been amazed at what technology and science brings us.  I loved watching Starship Troopers: Rico’s Roughnecks, Beast Wars, and even VR Troopers because each show used advanced computer graphics for their time.  Everyday, I look through news sites and blogs to find the newest in video games and gadgetry. And now, while I was searching the intertubes, I find this video:

Anatomy of a Black Hole

blackholeI’m always intregued by our investigations into space and time filled with wonder and things that we can barely comprehend never the less understand. One of the most curious and awesome phenomena in the universe has to be the Black Hole. Their existence is something of an enigma and the theory behind them is quite complex. The more we know about them the more questions become uncovered. Are they a gateway to another dimension or galaxy, a worm hole if you will? Can space and time really cease to exist as we know it at their center? What would happen if you were trapped in the gravitational pull of one of these monsters and are they only a totally destructive force? Well for those of you who are curious about these things (you’re a geek why wouldn’t you be?) here’s something I Stumbledupon the other day, a brief and informative walk through of the Anatomy of a Black Hole. Well what are you waiting for then, head on over and you might learn something for today?

Console Crazy or Flash Fanatic?

I hold no illusions to the fact that I am a casual gamer. While I have spent time behind the wheel of many an MMORPG, I have no desire to have two jobs. I own two consoles (Wii and PS3 for those keeping score), and lack a third because I refuse to pay a monthly access fee on something I will not use that often.  That last point may gain the ire of 2/5 of you (estimates on overall console ownership, not a proven number, but what fan-boy cares about facts anyhow?).  Tough.  Where was I…

The debate is on consoles versus browser-based (99% Flash, for the sake of this article) games. Read more after the break.
