Review: Futura Gamer’s Desk from LapWorks

Mon, Aug 31, 2009

-Have you been to LAN parties where there wasn’t enough table/counter space to go around?

-Would you like to game on your laptop while sitting on the couch, but you don’t because it affects your performance?

-Do you use a phone book to get your laptop at the proper eye level and wish you had something better to work with?

Well the people at LapWorks developed several “LapDesks” (Desks that sit on your lap) that can be used in these situations.

I’m a gamer and work with a laptop on a daily basis. So I was thrilled back in July when I received one of these “LapDesks”.  Now that I’ve used it for several weeks, I can tell you all about it!

Futura Gamer's Desk

Futura Gamer's Desk

The LapDesk I tried out is called the Futura Gamer’s Desk (with Regular & Max MouzPad). It retails at $54.95 on the LapWorks website.

At first, I thought it was quite expensive for a few pieces of plastic but when I realized what I could do with them I changed my mind

First, it can be used as a portable desk that you can use almost anywhere. You just lay it on your lap and it can be used either to support a laptop or the keyboard and mouse of a desktop. You’ll be comfortably sitting in an ergonomic position and your performance will be as good as if you were sitting at a computer desk. (more…)

Gdgt has officially launched!

Thu, Jul 2, 2009

GDGTGdgt the new venture from Ryan Block and Peter Rojas has finally launched after being announced just under a year ago. It’s a little difficult to explain, it’s a kind of gadget community based around an impressive gadget database that users can add to and update. I’m sorry if that description doesn’t really do it justice but here’s the lovely Miss Belmont to explain it a little better:

So if you’re a gadget fan like me, head on over to gdgt.com and join in the fun.

zune-hd-600-rm-eng12

Well damn.  Microsoft came out with something shiny, slick, and maybe better than the iPod touch.  Here’s a quick rundown of what Microsoft’s new Zune HD has:

  • HD Radio
  • HD video output (720p)
  • Touch screen
  • Accelerometer
  • Wifi
  • Xbox Live intergration
  • Comes out this fall

We, the PixelatedGeek crew, will be at E3 to get our grubby hands on it tell tell you how it feels and if it’s better than an iPod Touch. Of course we can’t compare it to an iPhone since the Zune lacks a cellular network.

Official Press Release after the break. (more…)

Blaster gets an upgrade – Transformers USB Hub

Fri, May 22, 2009

First it was the old Ravage turning from panther to a USB drive, now we have Blaster transforming from robot to a fake laptop with a real USB hub under it. I like this new trend of geek gadgets. If you want one, head over to this page and fork up the 3,980 yen.

Update: I suck. This is Blaster, not Soundwave. -_-;; Flame me in the comment section below. I deserve it.

Google iPhone Search App Now with Added Ninja
Ninja me this, is my iPhone more deadly with this update?

Ninja me this, is my iPhone more deadly with this update?

I like my tech companies to have a sense of humour. It makes me feel like they might actually be human and if you ever met them they might not be completely up themselves. So it was with suprise but delight that I went to update apps on my iPhone this morning and found that an update to the Google Mobile app included not only British English accent support (wohoo!) but also added Ninja. I have yet to find out what Ninjas are doing in my iPhone but it’s funny none the less. I hope the person who put that in doesn’t get fired cos it made me chuckle and what more can you ask for from an app update than stealthy assassins?

If anyone finds out what the Ninjas are doing let us know in the comments.

Update: Thanks to Cory for pointing out in comments that the Ninja infiltration of the Google Mobile app includes pictures!

Bullet Proof Bra

A new category for defensive clothing

A new category for defensive clothing

Bullet  proof bra, now that’s not something I thought I would type but the BBC is reporting that a 57 old woman from Detroit was saved by her bra from getting shot. The underwire deflected the bullet shot at her by a teenage gang who were breaking into the house next door and saw her through the window. The victim sustained injuries but was saved from serious injury through luck and a strong underwire.

Sgt Eren Stephens Bell told the Detroit News:

“We need to get some bulletproof vests made from that. It is some strong wire.”

The woman is said to recovering well from her ordeal. For the rest of us, maybe we should all start wearing underwired bras? I know people with moobs could sure use them!
