SDCC 2016 – Interview with Hasbro, Transformers Generations

As a Transformers fan who remembers sitting in a theater being blown away by the 1986 Transformers movie (and literally bursting into tears at the death of Optimus Prime…what? Don’t look at me like that, it was sad!) and a huge fan of the IDW More Than Meets The Eye comic, I’ve been very excited by the latest Transformers designs from Hasbro. We’re seeing gorgeous G1-style Transformers along with new concepts and our favorite characters from the current comics.

Have you ever wondered why some designs are chosen over others? Which characters get featured? Who’s making the decisions? Wonder no more! We got to talk with John Warden of Hasbro, part of the Transformers Generations design team, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Sure we asked him about the design process, the decisions, and the fan input. We also asked him about whether or not the Titans Returns Soundwave comes with the tapes (we’re all about the hard-hitting news here at PG. We’re also Team Soundwave, and don’t you forget it.)

[Comic Con 2010] Preview Night Highlights – Star Wars/Hasbro

Hasbro and Star Wars have always been a powerful force in cool toys, and this years booth is just as awesome.  The main draw was a Battle of Hoth diorama. Sitting in a glass case, it compresses the entire epic battle to several scenes you just wanna play with.

Of course you have the AT-ATs and AT-STs,  but the coolest part is inside the base, Leia is stuck in a tunnel with Han.  Darth Vader searches for rebel scum and of course Chewie is still trying to fix the Millenium Falcon.

For photos, go past the break.

[Dr. DM] Encounters and Monsters: Two Great Features From D&D

I don’t know if you’ve noticed by now, but I’m a little bit of a D&D fan.  I’ve had my gripes and groans about 4th edition as every Tang-swilling, Cheetos-munching, I’m-a-real-boy-dreaming super-nerd has.  Let’s be real: with each new system, people are going to have issues and problems with any and all aspects of the game and will finally admit, in the tangled throws of an exciting dungeon crawl, that, “Okay, this ONE feature of the game is kinda badass.  But don’t tell anyone, especially Ricky.  He’d kick my ass if he knew I was praising the game.”  Secretly, even Ricky, the stalwart, über-DM who considers anything after AD&D blasphemous to even speak of… even Ricky finds something to enjoy about the new system.  Chances are, he probably loves the whole system for each of its parts and cries each night alone in his basement/dungeon/rumpus room.  All seriousness aside — and the above scenarios are real, you know it’s true — 4th edition recently has released some great features for the game, and I thought I’d take some time during my normal article to highlight them.

Mr. Potato + Iron Man = Tony Starch

The 107th American International Toy Fair is taking place right now in New York City.  I’m not a big toy collector (though I do still have my massive childhood collection of Ninja Turtles and He-Man action figures), but I think I just might need to pick up Hasbro’s newest Mr. Potato Head rendition.  In honor of Iron Man 2 coming out this summer, they will be releasing “Tony Starch”, an Iron Man armor-clad Potato Head.  Pure genius.

So I thought I’d search the web to find all the geeky Mr. Potato Heads  that Hasbro has put out to date.  Check after the jump to see what I found (including… Darth Tater). Read On

iPhone Game Review: Connect 4

Posted by: |

Some traditional family board games translate well into the modern era in digital format, some simply don’t. Monopoly was one of the first traditional table games to make it to a computer and it’s done fairly well over the various platforms it’s graced, let alone the iPhone. There’s always been a game that I used to love playing but have never before seen move into a digital format and that’s Connect 4. Now thanks to EA, Connect 4 has graced the iPhone with all it’s chip dropping goodness. Read On
