Giant Spacekat launches Kickstarter for Revolution 60

On July 31 independent studio Giant Spacekat launched the Kickstarter for upcoming iPad title Revolution 60.

Described as “Heavy Rain meets Mass Effect,” and “a complex cinematic experience, where story and choice are paramount,” Revolution 60 is an unusual title on the mobile market. This narrative title topped the list of best games at PAX East 2013, features choice-based story mechanics and full voice acting. Players step into the shoes of Holiday, an assassin for the international spy group Chessboard, seeking to prevent an accidental nuclear war when an American orbital weapons platform drifts off-course.

Revolution 60 is extremely close to completion for the mobile market. The Kickstarter was launched to polish the game and take advantage of the Unreal engine’s cross-platform abilities. If successful, the Kickstarter will allow Revolution 60 to be released for PC and Mac with revised interface functions.

MC Chris Kickstarts the Animated Jams

Nerdcore legend, animation super star, and all-around-nice-guy MC Chris has been doing everything he can to make his dream of The MC Chris Show a reality.  The animated show starring MC Chris himself has been bounced about and beaten down for years now. Some may remember a previous Kickstarter to make a sizzle reel for the show a while back.  That short, but awesome piece of animation nearly got the show picked up by Adult Swim, (where Chris has both portrayed several beloved characters and written for some of their very first original shows).

Sadly, Adult Swim kicked Chris and his show out of the pool, leaving the poor nerd icon out in the cold.  Now he’s going back to the people who have supported him before in a new Kickstarter to fund finishing the animated short that the first crowd sourced project started.

Dude Bro Party Massacre 3: The Kickstartening

The internet comedy geniuses at 5secondfilms.com want to go beyond their normal five second format to bring the good people of the intertubes a feature length version of one of their most beloved shorts.  Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 is a fan favorite that has already been brought back from the dead as an 88 second trailer.  To achieve their goal of a 5,400 second version of the story, the sketch comedy troupe are looking to their fans, their friends’ fans, and the fans of their fans to help Kickstart the project.

In the spirit of other internationally famous sketch teams such as The State, Upright Citizens Bridgade, and Whitest Kids Your Know, Five Second Films has been creating quirky and fun videos since October 2008.  Since their beginning, they’ve released a new video every single day to bring hilarious or just plain weird videos to their fans without fail.  It’s this kind of dedication to their art and love for their fans that’s earned them the chance to make a movie for the people who’ve been asking for it.

Check out their trailer for Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 and a couple of my favorite videos from 5SF to get a little taste of the good times that this great team of comedic savants bring to the world.

Double Fine’s Kickstarter Pays Off

Developer Double Fine’s ambitious project to fund a new independent adventure game on Kickstarter raised a million dollars in one day.

They had hoped to raise $300,000. That took about eight hours. And there’s still thirty-one days to go.

What sort of project gets this much fan enthusiasm? Well, when the development team headed by Tim Schaefer promises both a classic-style point-and-click adventure game and the chance for Double Fine to produce a game largely free of outside corporate influence, the appeal is clear.
