Review: Injustice Gods Among Us (XBox 360)

injustice-gods-among-us-xbox-360-box-artOver time the fighting game genre has grown from an arcade clique to a world wide tournament. Many have tried to carve their niche in the fighting game world, but one company has outlasted and out gunned many upstarts.  NeatherRealm, the creators of the legendary Mortal Kombat series, have their roots planted deep in the fighting game community being the first to introduce blood and gore into their games.  Now with a combined effort from DC Comics, the most iconic heroes and villains will go head to head in an arena built for epic Kombat.

Overall: 8.6 Gotta get it!”

INJUSTICE – Enter the Catwoman

INJUSTICE – Enter the Catwoman

First seen at this years E3 2012, INJUSTICE is shaping up to draw plenty of comic fans come release time. The ever-evolving roster has a new addition today: Catwoman, bringing us to 9 of the rumored 28 characters.

Joining a cast that includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Nightwing, and Cyborg, Catwoman looks like a fast combo-focused character with a lot of agility.  It’ll definitely be interesting to see her in matches facing off against powerhouses like Superman and Wonder Woman.

Although the dialogue is a bit campy and the costume leaves a little to be desired, this Catwoman’s look definitely fits the game’s current style. She’s a great choice for inclusion given her upper-echelon status in the DCU and the success of The Dark Knight Rises bringing her to the forefront. It’s also great to see the male to female count balancing out some more, considering that DC has some of the most iconic women in comics.

Check out the video below and get a taste of what’s to come from INJUSTICE.

The Friday Fix April 29th

Hello lovely readers!  Sorry if you have been missing The Fix, but I am in the process of graduating college and boy am I busy.  Still, I have a brief respite from the papers, exams, and daily beatings so I thought what better way to celebrate then by bringing you a fresh edition of The Friday Fix.  Have y’all been busy as well?  Anyone out there find time to play Portal 2 yet?  How about the new Mortal Kombat, which if you haven’t played it yet is by a LONG shot the best in the series, at least in the humble opinion of this product of the 90′s.  If you are new to The Fix it is easy enough to follow.  I recommend a band, and then I saunter with a rakish swagger into the darkest corridors of Pixelated Geek until I have dragged out every last bit of the most newstastic news I can find.  Got it?

The band for this week is going to be Fleet Foxes. Their blend of huge harmonies and acoustic guitars create a unique and beautiful sound. They have a new album called Helplessness Blues releasing on May 3rd. Be sure to preview it here.

Now on to the news!!

That’s it for this weeks Fix.  Be sure to check back Friday for more of The Friday Fix.

Top 5 Mortal Kombat Characters

The latest Mortal Kombat arrives next Tuesday, and WB Games hopes to usher many fans with a “throwback” style that returns everything gamers love about the bloody fighter.  Mortal Kombat has never been afraid to experiment, and, while that hasn’t always worked out (Babalities surely stand out), the fighter has managed to come up with some pretty memorable characters.  With so many characters, it’s a difficult task to narrow them down, but these were the characters I just couldn’t leave out.  So here are my Top 5 Mortal Kombat Characters.

5) Liu Kang

Look at that hair....

Liu Kang is easily one of the most important characters in Mortal Kombat.  Liu Kang, in his classic red and black, is the ultimate good guy in the Mortal Kombat universe.  The main character in the films, his classic bicycle kick had children all over attempting to defy gravity with their own variation.  I guess it is slightly more possible than throwing fireballs.  But just barely.

Top 5 Games to get you through the Summer

Spring is here and a last bevy of games is on its way to get you through the historically dry summer months. Though most of the biggest names release in the fall and winter some big titles, including two new I.P.’s, are on their way before the summer officially begins. So here are my Top 5 Games to get you through the Summer.

5) Mortal Kombat

Ice Sword. The perfect weapon

Mortal Kombat is looking to recapture some of that old magic by following Street Fighter’s lead and returning to a more classic feel. It aims to take gamers back to why they fell on love with such games in the first place: intense gore mixed with ridiculous characters. The new X-ray attacks lend a whole new level of brutal combat to the game.
