There are times while I’m at work when I’d be having a one on one meeting with my boss to go over past, present, and future projects.  Now, I don’t wanna be mean but, I always feel a little hurt inside when he uses the wrong terminology for certain things.  I know he is just trying to explain stuff to me and its not his expertise or job.  His job is to keep the ship afloat and talk business stuff to business people.

Then, I had this one moment when I was explaining some web design terms to my GF.  I called the sides of a web layout a “Gutter.”  She instantly felt a little hurt and corrected me. “It’s margins.” Whoops. I felt like a noob.  But does anyone else feel this way when they hear wrong terms used in the wrong ways?

News from the Global Language Monitor estimates the millionth word in the English language is set to arrive on June 10th, 2009 at 10:22 am, British Summer Time. Buzz around the intarwebs and blogospheres is that the word “noob” will be that millionth word.

“The Global Language Monitor accepts words once they have been used 25,000 times by media outlets.”

Wow, there must be a lot of people using that word nowadays.  I wonder if gamers will stop using that word when it becomes official because their folks might start using it. Can you imagine this?

“Michael Ray Smith! Get your noob butt down here and wash the dishes like I told you 1 hour ago!”
