Binary System Podcast #89 – Night Vale Bonus tracks, and San Diego Comic-Con!

Binary System Podcast #89 – Night Vale Bonus tracks, and San Diego Comic-Con!

This week Welcome to Night Vale demonstrated once again that they don’t understand the meaning of the word “hiatus” because they gave us both an excerpt from the upcoming Night Vale book It Devours, AND a teaser for the new “Conversations With People Who Hate Me” podcast. This brings up one of the few times that the twins come down on opposite sides of an issue, because Kathryn likes to read the comment threads of news articles to find the rare moments of intelligent discussion and well-worded viewpoints, and Elizabeth doesn’t because she thinks they’re cesspits of humanity.

After that they nerd out about Saga for a bit (the cover to issue 44 is all kinds of neat) and then spell out their plans for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con! They’ll both be there, along with Official Binary System Photographer Captain Slack (otherwise known as Kathryn’s husband Nathan) to do some interviews, take a pile of photos, and report back on Nerd Mecca. Keep an eye out here and on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram!

Binary System Podcast #88 – The Alice Isn’t Dead catch-up episode (…part 2)

This week Binary System recaps two episodes of Alice Isn’t Dead in record time and that’s it! We’re all caught up with podcasts! And in one week San Diego Comic-Con takes over our lives and we’re going to get totally behind again. Enjoy the moment while it lasts…

Of course while trying to do a recap we go off on tangents about people who mine wikipedia for the best stuff, and about what a modern day oracle would look like (they probably wouldn’t be wearing greek robes in a cave, most likely a hoodie in an abandoned van) and about why you can’t eat the oranges on the ASU campus.

Binary System Podcast #87 – WTNV episode 110 “Matryoshka”

This week Binary System is finally caught up with Welcome To Night Vale woo!! Listen in as we recap (and try to pronounce) “Matryoshka.” Then there’s the Night Vale Bonus Episode “The Tragic Story of Louie Blasko,” which we don’t recap so much as point excitedly at the computer yelling “You guys you GUYS you need to listen to this!” Seriously. Right now. It’s only ten minutes. Go on, it’s okay, we’ll wait.

We also go on a tangent about China Mieville’s The City and The City, and how there may be a BBC adaptation and what a mind-f*#k that will be, and about Twin Peaks’ version of The Weather, and how Cillian Murphy can nail a dead-eyed stare, but with more sexy.

Binary System Podcast #86 – The Alice Isn’t Dead catch-up episode (…part 1)

This week Binary System Podcast is organized and on top of all the things! Hah, kidding, we’re still playing catch up. This week we recapped episodes 4 and 5 of the latest season of Alice Isn’t Dead, and still had time to talk about House of Cards, Iron Fist, Twin Peaks (…seriously, someone tell us, why do dudes think barfing scenes are hilarious?…) Jurassic World, and the totally unnecessary but really pretty boxes they sent with the Comic-Con badges.

Binary System Podcast #82 – Alice Isn’t Dead Part 2 Episode 3 “Abandoned Places”

This week we tried to recap the latest episode of Alice Isn’t Dead, but it’s this really atmospheric episode that doesn’t do well as a recap (it’s like trying to verbally describe an excellent sunset: you kinda had to be there.)

So we gave that up and talked about Only Lovers Left Alive (and strategic side-butt), the new trailer for Bladerunner 2049 (and how Jóhann Jóhannsson is doing the music and yes to all that), the upcoming Twin Peaks season and the book The Secret History of Twin Peaks and (*pushes glasses up*) the difference between an epistolary history and an oral one. (*Grins at you over the glasses.*) Heh. We said oral.

Binary System Podcast #78 – Season Premiere of Alice Isn’t Dead, Season Finale of The Walking Dead

After eight months it’s finally back: this week brought the season premiere of Alice Isn’t Dead, and we’ve got the recap but what we REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT is the season finale of The Walking Dead. Because priorities. So listen in for a quick recap of Keisha’s adventure’s in the desert and then a spoileriffic recap of Sasha’s adventures in a pine box.

Binary System Podcast #77 – WTNV episode 105 “What Happened at the Smithwick House”

This week’s Welcome To Night Vale episode offers up a short story. It’s a tale about a family, and a house, and a hole in the nursery wall. Cecil refuses to learn anything from the story, and we’re not entirely sure if there’s anything to learn from it. But it’s deliciously creepy, and the music by Disparition adds just the right touch.

But it’s not just a WTNV recap this week, oh no. WonderCon was last weekend, and Elizabeth’s got the scoop and the pretty pretty pictures of all the talented cosplayers. She also went to see a live show, nothing too big, she just got to see and get re-tweeted by Neil frikking Gaiman, and he’s exactly as awesome to hear as he is to watch.

Binary System Podcast #75 – WTNV episode 104 “The Hierarchy of Angels”

This week the twins recap the latest episode of Night Vale and talk about how angels can’t have building permits and dragons can’t practice law. (Apparently you can’t just tell somebody that the City said it was okay for you to build a roller coaster. Even if you spell all the words right.)

After that Kathryn gave us a breakdown of NC Comicon: Oak City, and Elizabeth gave us her picks for Amazon’s “Pilot Season.”

Binary System Podcast #73 – WTNV #103 “Ash Beach”

Anyone looking to take an early spring vacation? Why not take a trip to Night Vale’s newest attraction: Ash Beach. The town’s landlocked, so there’s no water, and the sand’s been replaced with ash from thousands of municipally burned books, so you’ll need a respirator. Other than that, it’s blisteringly hot, and hazy figures are infecting beachgoers with memories of things that never happened. It’s not a typical vacation, but you could do worse (although not much.)

When they’re not recapping the episode or watching Elizabeth’s cat lose her frikkin’ mind, the twins talk about the upcoming Convention season that kicks off with Oak City Comic Con in Raleigh. And for all you Transformers fans, Kathryn accepts the challenge to explain the difference between “Forged” and “Constructed Cold” in five minutes or less.

Binary System Podcast #71 – WTNV #102 “Love is a Shambling Thing”

Pretty appropriate Welcome To Night Vale title for a Valentine’s Day-themed recap, don’t you think? It’s actually the new Valentine’s Day slogan that the Night Vale City Council came up with and…what? Hang on…okay, that’s apparently not the correct slogan. The real one’s longer. Much, much longer. This may take a while.

Join the twins as they recap a WTNV episode with classic themes like romantic dinners at the exclusive Tourniquet restaurant, Classified ads (Lost: Moths. All of them.), and heartfelt demands for justice made by a five-headed dragon who’s still mourning the loss of 1/5th of her brother.  And if that’s not enough, there are also two references to punching Nazis. Because when isn’t it a good time to punch Nazis?
