Movie Issues: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

A film series that started in 2001 with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series has finally come to end. Our second long journey though middle earth has reached its climax with the new film, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. We pick up right where we last left our hobbits. Bilbo and Company are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the terrifying Smaug from acquiring a kingdom of treasure and obliterating all of Middle-Earth. In this last of three pictures we see action, war, blood, gore, brotherhood and love. Out of the three Hobbit pictures, this is by far the best one.

Comic Issues #201: Star Lord Gotham’s Assassin

This week your favorite Podcasting Duo catch their breath after last week’s live 200th podcast super-show and catch up on some comics.  When the dust settled on the microphones their three favorites rose to the top of the stack.  Legendary Star Lord #6 is the funniest, bestest, worst date in the galaxy as Peter and Kitty try to make the long distance work and for Anthony and Elizabeth to cringe at how badly the Star Lord bungles thing up.  Another rare appearance for the podcast, a DC title sneaks into the spotlight with Detective Comics #37 serving as a great jumping on point for the book and the art and story by podcast favorite Francis Manapul and Brian Buccalleto have us both interested in what’s to come from the Bat Book that isn’t Scott Snyder’s.

All this plus the latest Mad Max trailer, the Steven Colbert Report interview with Smaug, and more of the normal geeking out you love so much.

Movie Issues: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

We’re back for another round of long walking in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. We pick up right where the first movie ended: Bilbo, along with Gandalf and Thorin Oakenshield and his twelve companions, continue east to the edge of the forest of Mirkwood where they encounter a skin-changer, are attacked by giant spiders, then captured by Wood-elves. Bilbo helps the dwarves escape from the elves, and then they follow the forest river to Lake-town, where they meet Bard, a bowman who is against the dwarves going to the mountain.  After receiving help from the town, the party continues on to the Lonely Mountain, where they eventually find the hidden door into the mountain. Bilbo enters and encounters the dragon Smaug, and after a failed attempt by Bilbo and the dwarves to kill Smaug, the dragon seeks revenge by heading to Lake-town to wreak havoc again. Thus leaving the audience with a cliffhanger and a year of waiting to see the end of our long journey.
