Bloons 4 is out – Kiss your productivity goodbye

Screen shot 2009-11-22 at 7.39.27 PMOne of the most mind numbing yet fun flash tower defense game out on the net has a 4th sequel.  James introduced Bloons 3 to me and some other co-workers some time ago and it was hard to put down.  But, now with new towers, new upgrades and more new tracks, it’s going to be another while till I put this game down. Damn you animated monkeys! Why must you be so adorable and fun!

South Park: Let’s Go Tower Defense Play [Review]

sp_header

South Park has been around for quite sometime, sense my early days of High School I’ve been something of a fan. With a huge successful franchise usually brings about a Video Game. South Park has had a couple of these, while I did enjoy the FPS N64 version there hasn’t been any that have caught my eye. Well that was until I heard there was going to be a South Park Tower Defense Game. I was first introduced to Tower Defense with Field Runners on the iPhone sense then it’s been something of an addiction. How does South Park’s leap into the Tower Defense Genre hold up?

iPhone App Review: Star Defence

Tower defence games are a thriving genera on the iPhone with many, many games, some good, some great and some just plain bad. Today were going to be taking a look at one of the better TD games, Star Defence from ngmoco.

StarDefenceStar Defence follows the usual tower defence premise: bad guys, aliens in this case, invade and it’s your job to stop them dead in their tracks. The stand out feature for Star Defence has to be it’s 3D rotating worlds that you fight on. Instead of a field arena, you get small planets on which the path of the enemy is fixed. This takes some getting used to at first, especially if you’re used to the classic kind of playing field provided by the excellent Fieldrunners, but it’s well worth the effort. The graphics provided in Star Defence are really quite good and look akin to the graphics provided by Command and Conquer Generals, allowing you to zoom right in on the action for close ups with the units which are all pretty well animated.

Hands-On: South Park Lets Go Tower Defense

This game will be a definite buy for me once it comes out September 7th on Xbox Live Arcade.  Here are some notes I picked up while talking to the hired booth guy.

Stuff under the “DUH” notes

  • It’s a tower defense game
  • Up to 4 players
  • Coming out for Xbox Live
  • Check out www.Xbox.com/Southpark for more info

More specific stuff

  • Instead of using a mouse cursor to plant your towers, you choose one of the 4 kids (Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman) as your cursor.
  • You move your kid to where you want to plant you tower.  Press a button to bring up the tower chooser, then press left or right to look at the different towers.
  • Once an enemy is killed, they drop coins.
  • You don’t automatically earn money every time you kill something.  You need to pick up the coins before they disappear.
  • It plays on a custom storyline.
  • More than 100 new lines have been voice recorded just for the game.
  • Some unlockables include old clips form the show.
  • Each kid has their own super move.
  • If playing with less than 4 players, you can switch between kids at anytime.
  • Kids that aren’t being used, turn into simple snowball throwing towers.
  • Kids can throw snowballs at anytime to help the towers.
  • Like MegaMan, you can charge up your snowball for a 1-hit-1-kill.

South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense

Finally, someone takes the Tower Defense genre to the next level by making it more fun. South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense makes the genre less boring by letting you use a character to help your towers and fight along side them with special abilities. The game will have a panel at Comic Con this Saturday. I’ll be there to cover it.

It Was Bound to Happen: an iPhone Tower Defense Game

FieldRunners

Menu Screen

It takes a lot for me to buy a game when there are plenty of time wasters at the iTunes App store for FREE.  But after a friend of mine showed me this game, I was immediately in love with it.  Finally, a tower defense game for the iPhone. (for $4.99USD)

FieldRunners has 3 difficulty settings (easy, normal, hard) and only 4 different types of towers.  Each type of tower can be upgraded twice. If you’ve played tower defense type games, then this game is a sinch to pick up.  If you haven’t, the simple instructions tell you how to play. Just a quick tip for the tower defense noobs out there, try to make a maze with your towers so you can reuse each tower 2 to 3 times.

2 more screens after the break.
