Screw energy drinks. An arc reactor is all your need. [Toys]

Screw energy drinks. An arc reactor is all your need. [Toys]

Ever felt that afternoon crash around 2 or 3pm while at work? Energy drinks can get you peppy but leave you to crash later.  Want real, sustained energy? Put an Arc Reactor on your chest.  Get the same energy that can power a military grade suit for the price of a toy.

Ok, yes fine. The truth is, this Iron Man 2 toy doesn’t give you more energy than a Red Bull. It’s probably a battery power LED light inside of plastic. But isn’t part of the fun of being a kid playing pretend? So let me pretend! Available for pre-order now at Entertainment Earth for $7.59.

World of Warcraft plush toys have arrived

We posted last week that Blizzard had planned to release two new in-game pets along with matching plush toys. The World of Warcraft pet store has now added the two new pets for players to purchase. The Wind Rider Cub and the Gryphon Hatchling are available today at the Blizzard Store for $24.99. This price is $15 more than the previous two pets the store launched with. The reason being is the added bonus of receiving a plush toy of the pet you purchase. As another added bonus, you also receive a bag that has been printed with the symbol for the faction the pet is associated with.  If the sales numbers for the previous pets are any indication of how much people love buying WoW related pets, there are going to be a lot of people cuddling up to WoW plushies really soon.

Mr. Potato + Iron Man = Tony Starch

Mr. Potato + Iron Man = Tony Starch

The 107th American International Toy Fair is taking place right now in New York City.  I’m not a big toy collector (though I do still have my massive childhood collection of Ninja Turtles and He-Man action figures), but I think I just might need to pick up Hasbro’s newest Mr. Potato Head rendition.  In honor of Iron Man 2 coming out this summer, they will be releasing “Tony Starch”, an Iron Man armor-clad Potato Head.  Pure genius.

So I thought I’d search the web to find all the geeky Mr. Potato Heads  that Hasbro has put out to date.  Check after the jump to see what I found (including… Darth Tater). (more…)

LEGO Engagement Proposal – Too Cute

photo1

Now here is a very cute way to ask a girl to marry you.  Especially if you both love LEGO bricks.

This set was taken the day of our LEGO Engagement (July 18, 2009). We were technically celebrating our dating anniversary, and since we regularly buy LEGO sets for each other, she didn’t suspect a thing.”

Joe gave his now fiance 3 LEGO sets.  Each one providing a small clue as to what Joe will be asking her after she opened all three gifts. Each set was customized to look like the couple and hint at the proposal.

The first LEGO set was called “Kristin and Joe” which had two look-a-like minifigs riding bikes. The second was “our favorite things” which included small pieces that looked like a flat screen TV, keyboard, pizza, and books.  The third and final LEGO set was called “Engagement Picnic” which was made to look like the couple at that exact moment.

A very cute and creative way to ask a girl to marry her. Congrats Kristin and Joe!

From my iPhone – Let little Joey beat his dolphin

Welcome to a new Geek Original segment, “From my iPhone.”  Over the past couple of months, I’ve been taking some interesting videos and photos with my iPhone.  I now have a good enough collection that I can start this segment.  It’s just a little way for me to share what I see through my day to day life with you, our readers. So, enjoy =D.

I saw this at a small toy shop. I think this is how you can teach little Joey how to beat it.

Fan Made LEGO Star Wars Chess Set

3865070132_ecf4483183

Flickr user and LEGO artist, icgetaway, has built an awesome chess set based on Star Wars characters.  It always gets me when I see the level of detail these LEGO artists put into their creations.  But not only can you play chess with this, the board also acts as a storage for the game pieces.  Go past the break for more photos.

Thursday Throwback: Captain Power

Yes. I know. I’m late again.  Been so gosh darn busy with setting up appointments for PAX 2009, working at my new job, and just being lazy due to the San Diego heat wave. ugh. But here it is, you’re Thursday Throwback.

YouTube Preview Image

Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future.  I remember when this toy first came out.  I was geeking out about it while on the way to Kay Bee Toy Story at Plaza Bonita to get it.  Oh, man.  When I brought it home and popped in the VHS tape, I knew that I was playing with advanced technology.  I mean, how cool was it to play with a toy, that came with its own VHS tape that interacted with the toy?! I’m just smiling about it right now while writing this entry. If you don’t know what Captain Power was, check out the video past the break. (more…)

Exclusive Interview with LEGO Master Builder Mariann

We had the pleasure of spending a Sunday afternoon with one of the few LEGO master builders in the world.  Mariann Asanuma is one of those few but also has claimed the spot of being the first and (so far) only female freelance LEGO builder.  Before we recorded the interview, we began talking about her history with LEGO bricks* and how her love turned into a career.
