Top 5 Sequels of This Generation

The holidays are almost upon us, and the games couldn’t be any bigger.  Sequels are bombarding us around every corner; only time will tell if they can live up to their predecessors.  In the hopes that they will (I’m looking at you Fallout: New Vegas), here are some sequels from this generation that delivered on their promise.

5) God of War 3

As big, bold, and bloody as anything God of War fans could hope for, the “final” game in the trilogy truly operated on an epic scale. You literally fought a Titan and then killed said Titan. Last time I checked, that was pretty big. The game delivered on everything it promised and gave us more of the giant jerk we’ve come to love. By love I of course mean enjoy playing as him and cutting people in half.

4) Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

To describe the first Call of Duty Modern Warfare as simply “a success” would be a drastic understatement. It turned the online community on its head and became the king of online shooters. The single player elements were just as exciting, making it the complete package. Safe to say, Modern Warfare 2 had some big shoes to fill. Modern Warfare 2 came out bigger and better than people saw coming. Yes, the story made Micheal Bay look eloquent, but at least the developers swung big. Add to this how amazingly customizable they made the multi-player experience, and you have a game that truly gave the fans what they wanted.

3) Fallout 3

Fallout is a franchise that is very near and dear to many gamers. So naturally many gamers were wary when a new developer took the reigns.  It soon became clear, though, that the game was in very good hands.  Fallout 3 ushered in a whole new era of fans, as people fell in love with the wasteland and all of its super mutants.

2) Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect was a groundbreaking game that blew the lid off of what one could accomplish in a role-playing game.  It was a critical smash, and people expected a lot out of Mass Effect 2. Everything that didn’t work in the first game had been fixed. It looked great, played great, and had an amazing cast of characters.  It even had Adam Baldwin in it, and anything remotely connected to Firefly is automatically awesome.

1) Uncharted 2

The first Uncharted was a critical success despite some flaws that held it back, one of these being that it took an entire clip to kill some pirates. However, no one could deny that the game was wonderfully entertaining. The game had stunning visuals and a great story. Uncharted 2 kicked things off with a bang, astounding people at E3 and winning tons of E3 awards before the game was even finished. When the game came out, it was even more of a success. Uncharted 2 was bigger, prettier, and more fun then its predessecor in every way. It even added a very enjoyable multi-player experiance that the team has continued to update since launch. The game truly showed what can be accomplished between the marriage  of gameplay and the cinematic.
