Sharkoon Xtatic SX [Headset Review]

In the past, we have reviewed some new gaming audio accessory brands headsets. Now a new challenger has entered the ring coming all the way from Denmark. Sharkoon has sent us its Xbox 360/PC gaming headset for review.

Will this new headset from this new brand from Denmark be the right fit for you? Check out the photos and review past the break.

The Headset:

The Xtatic SX headset looks clean and beautiful. It uses the same white, grey, and green color scheme as the Xbox 360. The microphone is detachable and can bend in many different directions.  Toward the middle of the cord are the mute switch, headset, and microphone volume controls, and a plug for the included Xbox 360 microphone cable.

At the very end of the cable are three plugs: one USB, one 3.5mm audio plug, and one 3.5mm microphone plug. The traditional green 3.5 audio and mic plugs can be used for either your PC or MAC.

When wearing the headset, the padding around the speakers feels very soft and comfortable around your ears and on your head. I wore the headset for three hours straight and felt as comfortable as I did when I first wore it.

The Sound:

So, after using this headset for a week on my Xbox 360 and MacBook Pro, I still couldn’t get over the loud buzzing sound in the headset. I quickly realized that the buzzing sound is coming from the USB cord that you must plug in. The headset gets power from USB and, for some reason, you hear a constant buzzing noise. Now, it could have been that the USB port that I was using on my MacBook Pro just does that. But, after plugging it in to my Xbox 360 to play some Monday Night Combat, it was still buzzing.

There is no way around the buzzing noise since the headset draws its power from USB to work.  Without it plugged in, you get no sound.

If you’re able to ignore the buzzing noise, the headset actually works quite well. You definitely get that surround sound in your head, which is very important in any FPS today.

Overall:

For a retail price of around $50, this Sharkoon Xtatic SX headset could be the budget headset for any PC/MAC/Xbox 360 gamer. Comfortable padding, great surround sound, and it can be used for PC, MAC, and your Xbox 360. Now the buzzing sounds could be a technical error sourcing from several issues. Maybe my MacBook Pro’s USB port isn’t working right, my Xbox 360’s USB port is faulty, or maybe even the headset we were sent was handled incorrectly when shipped. Once we get word from Sharkoon about it, I’ll update this post.
