Is Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition worth the extra Andrew Jackson? The Collector’s Edition box has a warm leathery appearance with a slide cover, giving it a classy appearance. When you open the lid, the first thing you see is the hard cover graphic novel. Published by Dark Horse Comics, it introduces the events leading up to where you meet your character. The art work aptly correlates to the game’s visual graphics. Located underneath is a platinum token about the size of a Chip’s Ahoy cookie. The token has a solid weight and smooth chrome finish, not a cheap plastic feel. The detail resembles a roulette table and engraved in the center is, “Lucky 38.” This is separate from the New Vegas poker chips (themed from within the game and have the same weight) are similar in quality. Check out the rest after the pic and the break.
The DVD comes in a small cardstock sleeve. It includes “The Making of Fallout: New Vegas,” and is an extended version of what can be found online. The ‘making-of’ segments include an interview with the voice talent, sound design, and a segment on”The Strip.” One of the interesting cuts exposes Zachary Levi and Matthew Perry as avid gamers. Lending her voice to the game is Felicia Day, from Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog and The Guild. The DVD also has the original teaser trailer and the trailer from E3. Underneath the DVD is the deck of cards in a worn-looking case. The card faces are detailed in the New Vegas art style and come with descriptions of the game “Caravan” which can be played in game. The game case itself is the same as the standard edition game. I think, for a diehard Fallout fan, this edition is not a wallet buster and worth the money. It might not be as eccentric as the Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition, which arrived with a metal lunch box and a bobble head, but true fans will really appreciate what comes in the box. If you are a casual Fallout player, you might not spring for it unless you have the extra twenty to spend.
Fallout New Vegas Collector’s Edition retails for $79.99. The standard edition sells for $59.99.
