Mold Breaker

Currently, twelve Pokemon have the ability Mold Breaker, defined as: moves that can be used regardless of ability.  For us Poke-freaks, that means that we can, on my count, ignore  42 opposing abilities in combat that would normally hamper us. Sweet! Are you facing a Rhyperior with Lighting Rod that’s forcing you to hit him with Thunderbolt and not the Poliwrath? Bump that! Mold Breaker lets you ignore Lightning Rod and force some sweet voltage down Poliwrath’s dome.  Let’s see how this can play out in the real world.

I was watching MTV — not because I am a fan of the programming (bring back “Celebrity Deathmatch,” please) — but because I was watching “Real Life: I’m a Nerd” or “Made: I’m a Nerd, Make Me Cool,” or something. I’m not too sure, because all of the shows seem to run together in this loud, Ed Hardy-screaming, Real-World-Challenge mixture of programming. Regardless of my programming profiling, I noticed that the goal of this show was to transform a socially unhappy into someone else: turning a nerd into not so much of a nerd, essentially. Frankly, I became a little offended and didn’t finish watching the show; I think something else was on the Food Network (Note from the Editor: Giada’s hot).

The aspect that really affected me was the fact that this brilliant guy thought that it would be easier to become someone else to help his social situation. It’s obvious that I am all about self help and improvement within one’s sense of self and style. However, I am not a fan of retooling to the point that you don’t resemble yourself anymore. They attempted to mold this guy from the position as a regular college guy that wants to go do college things. I hope I’m not the only one that sees the problem with turning a geek into a bro. I would rather see the geek turned into a better geek.

Take, for example, meeting and interacting with girls. Instead of giving him tips about how to meet girls at college bars or parties, what is wrong with giving tips regarding talking to girls at conventions? He would have had a lot more fun and actually could have conjured the courage faster when they can both talk about Lobo or the latest Webcomic. The mentality was that only a certain type of guy knows how to talk to girls or be stylish, and that can’t be a nerd. We all have CHA scores (sure some may not be as high as others) and we can still attempt the skill challenge.  We do not need to change our class to attempt.
