Spare Change: Going Broke in 2011, Part One

You might need to install more shelving because it looks like 2011 will be a great year for Collectors’ Editions. Here are the major ones I am looking forward to in the first quarter, and some of their key features.

Little Big Planet 2: To be released January 18, 2011. It’s a sequel to the game that made me want to own a PlayStation 3. The collector’s edition will contain collectable bookends and a plushie Sackboy as well as quite a bit of DLC in the form of Sackboy costumes. The SRP is $79.99.

Bulletstorm – Epic Edition: Expected release date is 2/22/11. If you preorder Bulletstorm before the release date, you are upgraded to Bulletstorm — Epic Edition. The nice part about that is that you that you get the Gears of War 3 Beta and 25,000 points to spend, special armor, Peace Maker Carbine, and a visual alternative for your in game leash. The SRP is $59.99.

Dead Space 2: Release date: January 25, 2011. Dead Space 2 makes the list because it gives the fans what they truly want: a replica Plasma Cutter to take down the Necromorphs.  The replica also lights up with trigger pull.  With in-game content and an added soundtrack, this is a promising collector’s item. SRP: $79.99.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds: Special Edition Release date: February 15, 2011.It comes with an authentic comic book and a one month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics. The DLC includes two characters. It makes the list because it is a sequel to a marvelous franchise, with super bonuses. SRP: $69.99.

Killzone 3 Helghast Edition : Release date February 22, 2011. The collector’s edition comes with a Helghast helmit which contains the game, an art book and a voucher. The helmet itself looks great, I love when companies give you your money’s worth with the collectors’ editions. Also included is an exclusive action figure. The voucher allows access to special multiplayer advantages for 24 hours. At a SRP of $129.99, this is one of the most expensive out there, but it also offers many benefits.

There are many more must-have collectors’ editions coming out this year, and I will keep you posted in advance.
