Evil Controllers has declared February as Girl Gamer Month! They came out with some fabulous girl related products (just in time for Valentine’s day, guys)! I spoke briefly with Lindsey and Jessica from EC and discussed why they wanted to have a month just for the girls and their new product line. What do you think? Should gaming girls have their own month? Read on to see what they had to say!
I love the idea of a girl gamer month, but I can definitely see why many people wouldn’t. I actually got my first “hate mail” the other day that bashed me for writing for a girl specific blog. It didn’t phase me, but I understood her point. The bare truth is that girls like to be girls. We tend to group together, support each other, bitch at each other (did I say that?), and even go to the bathroom together.
Just to make a quick point as well, when someone refers to your school’s basketball team, do you ever have to ask which gender they are talking about? Girls have to make their name somehow!
When I spoke with Lindsey and Jessica, they had the same viewpoint as well. Evil Controller’s client base is mostly male, and they wanted to get more females interested. By having more female oriented gaming products on the market, maybe more girls will want to get involved with gaming. The majority of my gaming friends are male, and I would love to have some more girls at my side!
We are not trying to say ‘you’re a girl, you’re different,’ instead, we are trying to say that we recognize you. – Lindsey Olson
They would love for the idea of Girl Gamer Month to spread if it gets a good response.
To recognize their female client base, they released a pink camo controller and an Evil Controllers tank for women! See photos below:

I love the controller, the camo makes it still look pretty badass even though it’s pink. The entire bundle, including the controller, the tank, and Evil Sticks, comes out to a smooth $154. Considering their lowest price custom controller rolls in at about $90, that’s a pretty nice deal. It includes free shipping and a free warranty as well. The pink camo controller by itself is about $100.

As an added bonus, and one that is close to my heart, part of the proceeds from the pink camo controller bundle will go towards Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Susan G. Komen is a charity that supports research to cure and treat breast cancer. Breast cancer is serious, and simply spreading awareness saves many lives, including my own mother’s.
Tell me what you think. Do you like the controllers? How do you feel about having a month dedicated to girl gamers? It’s a month pretty much dedicated to women already, so why not the added category?
