For those of you that know Portal’s storyline incredibly well, you should be familiar with Aperture Science’s founder, Cave Johnson. While the initial information regarding this man might have seemed trivial from the teases and small hints in the first game, Portal 2 is promising that we will learn a little bit more about the man behind the idea of creating portals as a type of shower curtain. Well, maybe we won’t learn anything more, but we at least get to hear his voice and questionable reasoning this time around.
PAX East attendees were given a little treat by the Valve team this year. In addition to hearing Stephen Merchant (you might know him from the British comedy, “The Office”) playing Wheatley — the new character that looks very simliar to GLaDOS’s personality spheres — Valve also presented J.K. Simmons as the voice of Cave Johnson for the upcoming Portal 2 game. While Valve is keeping pretty hush-hush about how important the Aperture Science founder will be to the sequel’s storyline, we do know that he will be featured pretty frequently in the game.
Of course, the great writers and developers at Valve know it’s unfair to announce something like this without a little tease. Two short videos have been released with Cave Johnson himself providing some “investment opportunities” in the form of robotic trust and panels. Enjoy.
