With PAX East 2011 just around the corner, everyone on the internet is all a-Twitter (pun intended) about the panels, the parties, and the concerts. Except for me. For one omega-exciting reason: the Omegathon. Because randomly selected alongside 19 others out of tens of thousands of pre-regged attendees was none other than yours truly.
My cohorts and I will be pitted against one another (or rather, my as-of-yet unknown partner and I will be up against the nine other pairs) in five rounds of gruesome, grueling, brawling competition. A veritable melee wherein we will fight to the death–or rather, to Germany–in the most difficult games since Ikaruga. All for the grand prize of airfare and three nights’ lodging at GamesCom 2011, along with $1500 in spending money.
Read on to see the schedule and list of brutal (and might I add violent) games on which we’ll be competing.
Round 1: Katamari, Friday, 12:30 PM — Merman Theatre (052)
Round 2: Bananagrams, Saturday, 11:30 AM — Merman Theatre (052)
Round 3: Jenga, Saturday, 8:30 PM — Main Theatre (Floor 3)
Round 4: Operation, Sunday, 10:30 AM — Merman Theatre (052)
Round 5: It is a secret! Sunday, 5:30 PM — Main Theatre (Floor 3)
Man, that is SOME lineup, huh? Concentration, steady hands, and a penchant for snowballs made of bits of the cosmos – all things I wished I possessed. Ah well, here’s hoping the final round ends up being StarJeweled.
I ship off for the event in less than a week. And like a true pro gamer, I’ve got sponsors lined up to cheer me on: Ubisoft, the Frag Dolls, ASTRO Gaming, Destructoid, and Fat, Ugly or Slutty. So if you’re planning on being at PAX East, look for the PG Crew. You’ll find me wearing myriad shirts and rocking some serious face at Bananagrams – as long as I can just make it past the first round.
