Keyport – A Geek’s Swiss Army Knife [Gadget Review]

I like to think of this gadget as the Swiss Army knife for geeks. But, instead of originating in Switzerland, the Keyport’s origin is in Nevada. Also, instead of a knife, it houses your keys and the optional USB flash drive, LED light, and bottle opener.

The Keyport was made by Josh Downes. “An avid motorcyclist, Josh could never leave his motorcycle key attached to his keychain or the keys would flail around noisily in the wind and scratch the bike’s handlebars. Therefore, he either had to keep it separate from his other keys or he had to take it off the keychain each time he went for a ride, and neither option seemed like a good solution.”

Whats in the box?

· Your “keyblades”
· Keyport
· 6 “Nodes”
· Keyport Tincase
· Mini lanyard

What I like

The Keyport looks really stylish and will definitely give you +20 to your geek cred. Because my keys inside of the keyport are no longer touching each other, my keys stay silent. Which is good because now my dogs don’t bark at me whenever I start to get ready to leave for work.

The convenience of the optional USB flash drive, LED light and bottle opener, gives me the everyday tools that I need wherever I go.

What I don’t like

When taking the blank “keyblades” to my local Home Depot, the employee who duplicated my keys said that “we aren’t really allowed to use key blanks that aren’t ours, but I’ll do it for you anyways.”

So, when you get your keys duplicated, you might want to make sure you find a nice guy to do it for you.

Overall

It is a nice gadget to have. All your keys stay silent and are quickly accessible in a very nice housing. If you can afford the price tag of $55-$100 ($49.00 for the keyport housing, $4.99 for each blank keyblade, and $5.99 for each optional insert [USB flash drive, bottle opener, LED light]) then this would be a great keychain replacement for you.
