After seeing the Star Wars Kinect demo, Monday morning during Microsoft’s Press Conference, I was really skeptical about the game. It looked like another motion controller gimmick game. It wasn’t until Jess and I got onto the E3 show floor to play it first hand at the Xbox booth that made me think otherwise. The game was pretty fun and has a lot of potential.
To use your lightsaber, you would just put your right hand out. To fight with your lightsaber, you would swoosh your right hand anyway you want to slice and dice your enemies. If you wanted to force choke or pick up someone with force powers, you would put your left hand towards the screen. Then, while the enemy is in the air, you could toss them to the side by swiping your hand towards the left or right. Basic jumps and flips can be performed by doing a little hop in place. The last combat move you could do was leaning forward to dash towards an enemy quickly.
One thing we learned from the Xbox representative was the demo we played is a very early build. You cannot use force powers at the same time you are fighting with your lightsaber. So, you can’t make up your own Jedi/Sith combo, like force choking someone towards you, then cutting them in half right in front of you. I was told that we may be able to use the force and lightsabers at the same time in a later build.
Star Wars Kinect will be released in the winter of 2012 for the Xbox 360.
