Howdy everybody! I know it has been a bit since the last Friday Fix but hopefully I will once again be able to administer your weekly dose of all the most newstastic news the site has to offer. The dry season for gaming that is summer soldiers on, but the movie theaters appear to have taken up the torch of geekiness. Yet another superhero movie will be gracing the big screen — the purposefully retro Captain America — while Harry Potter’s finale is breaking all kinds of records. If you have never read The Fix, it is easy to follow: I gather up all the greatest news from around the site and then I pick a band for your listening pleasure.
The band for this week is going to be The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The band is comprised of the stars of the award winning documentary Dig! along with The Dandy Warhols. BJM has a unique retro quality to their sound that never sounds forced or contrived. Be sure to check the video to see what I mean. Also if you like music at all, you should watch Dig!, which is both heartbreaking and uplifting and overall just a phenomenal film.
Now on to the news!
- Twisted Pixel is back again and better than ever. If you have been thinking this summer could use some more ‘splosions, then you’re in luck. If you were thinking there were already enough ‘splosions this summer, then you should probably reevaluate your meter.
- A PSA informing us that sometimes you have to know when to let a classic go. Slave Leia had a great run. It’s time for a change. Let’s just hope they don’t turn to Chewbaca for inspiration too often.
- Are you ready for the Starcraft Universe trailer? Thought so. Now you can spend even more time on your computer!
- The Amazing Spider-Man gets an amazing trailer. Spider-Man, Spider-Man, has a billion Facebook friends like a spider can. He’s the guy from The Social Network. Get it? Do you like me now?
- Last but not least, take a tour of the lovely Bethesda Studios, home of dragons and nuclear wastelands. Also normal people who seem nice. Do you think they walk around the office constantly high-fiving each other for being so awesome? I know I would.
That is all for this week’s Fix; be sure to check back next Friday for more!
