The Artists who Love Star Wars

Very few things have had an impact on people the way Star Wars has. At the time of the release of Episode IV: A New Hope, nothing like it had been really seen before. The scope and imagination of it all felt so expansive and endless. It was Star Trek on crack.

Star Wars has continued to capture the minds of the young and old, inspiring many artists to push their own talents all in an attempt to create something that touches people the way Star Wars had touched them. Those artists continue to pay homage in their off time, sketching Star Wars pieces out of love for the franchise that inspired them.

Among the artists in the comic book field, today very few are like Skottie Young and Scott Morse. Their highly kinetic style and sense of humor shine through their work, and this is especially true when it comes to the daily sketches that they post on their site SkottieScott.com. For three weeks in May, the duo devoted their Daily Sketches to their love of Star Wars, one movie per week starting with A New Hope and continuing with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Here’s some of the pieces they produced during that period.

Another artist known for his love of Star Wars, Adam Hughes has done a lot of work for different publications. Hughes’ portraits of strong, sexy women in the Star Wars universe make them as empowering as their male counterparts. Adam Hughes is a huge talent in the comic book world and can be found producing cover art for both Marvel and DC Comics.

Much of the inspiration for every artist to draw a lightsaber or the Millennium Falcon definitely comes from the two men who first brought traditional art to the Star Wars universe. Greg and Tim Hilderbrandt are the twin brother artists who created the first bilingual Star Wars movie poster to the world. Together, they captured onlookers’ imagination with the perfect blend of fantasy and sci-fi that the movie contained. Their work with Star Wars has become iconic, and they’ve also created art for Marvel and DC as well as Magic: The Gathering and Lord of The Rings.
