Maxell Corporation and Wearable Inc. demonstrated the second-generation AirStash wireless thumb drive at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The AirStash 2’s press release calls the AirStash the “first and only wireless flash drive.” It uses a built-in web server and media streamer to share data with up to eight devices wirelessly within 50 meters and has a storage capacity of either eight or sixteen gigabytes. The AirStash can operate for up to seven hours without being charged via its USB connection and can be accessed wirelessly by any device with WiFi b/g/n 2.4GhZ capability and a WebDAV or web browser application.
For more information on the AirStash, check the official site.
Trauben’s Impressions
This is another simple-but-impressive piece of engineering. A pocket-sized hard drive with up to 16 gigs of space is handy, but the idea of a truly wireless external storage device has all sorts of handy implications. Speaking for myself I can imagine how handy a data hub and server that literally fits in your pocket can be.
Count me in for somebody who wants one.
McGinley’s Impressions
This was another of the smaller booths at CES that really felt like it was pushing the boundaries of traditional technology. Working on articles and passing thumb drives around the hotel room would have been much easier if supplemented by the Airstash 2 during this CES. Now, I just need to find a way to combine the AirStash 2 and this little baby together.
