Valve announced a major addition to their game management client Steam today: “Big Picture”.
This new aspect of Steam allows users to access their PC/Mac Steam games on their HD TV. Interface with game controllers will also be available too, though it seems that right now only the XBox 260 controller is compatible. Big Picture will allow users to browse the entire Steam library and chat with Steam friends on other hardware platforms.
Big Picture will also include a number of unique features. These include the first “first person web browser”, making using a controller to surf the internet easier and quicker, and “Daisywheel,” a new typing interface designed around using a controller instead of mimicking a QWERTY keyboard.
Big Picture is currently in the Beta stage and available for those interested in beta-testing it. More features will be announced as Big Picture nears release. Check out Valve’s official Big Picture site for more information on the program and how to sign up!
