Trailer Park

Welcome to The Trailer Park, a place where all trailers come to congregate. Every week the newest and greatest trailers will gather here for your one stop shop in movies, video games, and all other kinds of teaser goodness.

This week Zod continues his threats on Superman as Man of Steel approaches like a speeding bullet. Pacific Rim rises from the depths to excite us more about del Toro’s monster smashing, epic robot action film. Edgar Wright and the gang of Pegg and Frost team up again for a comedic adventure of old friends out to recapture the glory of their youth. In The Purge, a family must do all they can to stay safe on the most dangerous night of the year, where there is no law to protect them. Lastly, Metallica creates a unique blend of music and narrative in Through the Never.

Man of Steel

Directed by Zach Snyder and starring Henry Cavill (Immortals), Amy Addams (The Muppets), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire), Russell Crowe (Gladiator), Kevin Costner (Hatfields & McCoys), Diane Lane (Jumper), and Lawrence Fishburn (The Matrix).

These new trailers are so much better than the first few boring ones that we first saw.  That said, I think it’s time to take it easy. Man of Steel, you’ve got your hook in me, there’s no need to beat us over the head.  The unfortunate trend of over advertising blockbuster movies is looming over the big red “S”.

Pacific Rim

Directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Charlie Hunnum (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (Luther), Ron Pearlman (Hellboy), and Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

Giant monsters fighting giant robots directed by the amazing Guillermo del Toro is exactly the kind of combination that makes a perfect summer movie.  Although most of the trailers so far have been fairly redundant, the excitement for this movie has yet to wain.  This trailer’s got a bit more robot action, but I’m still looking for something to show me the world that these robots and monsters are living in.  Still, I’m in.

The World’s End

Directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg (Star Trek into Darkness), Nick Frost (Attack the Block), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), and Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher).

The Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz team strike again with another comedy that is about as much of a sure thing as… well, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  As much as we’ve seen so far, we’re in for another witty and quirky comedy.  Unfortunately, it’s rumored that this will be the last time that these guys may work together.

The Purge

Directed by James DeMonaco and starring Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers), and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones).

In a near perfect America, there is still one night a year where all crime is legal.  This movie has a big time The Strangers vibe, but with a semi-dystopian feel to it.  If the movie turns out to be a Strangers rip with more of a twist than a boo, then we’ll be lucky to get something clever and insightful on what society thinks it wants.  I won’t hold my breath.

Metallica Through the Never

Directed by Nimrod Antal and starring James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, and Dane Dehaan (Lawless).

Mixing Metallica’s legendary metal music with Antal’s narrative, Through the Never follows the young roadie, Trip, as he’s sent out on a critical mission that becomes crazier and crazier as the soundtrack builds the tension.  Although this is a pretty niche film, the surreal feel looks like a pretty intense experience that looks worth the price of admission.

What are you looking forward to this year?
