This year while at WonderCon I had the privilege of speaking with Eisner and Harvey Award winning writer Marc Andreyko. Andreyko, who’s recently taken over writing Batwoman after Williams and Blackman’s departure from the book, has been a veteran of the industry working alongside top talent like Brian Michael Bendis (half of Marvel‘s current books and Torso), P. Criag Russell (The Ring of Nibelung, Doctor Strange: What Disturbs you, Stephen?), and Billy Tucci (Shi, Birds of Prey).
Andreyko is also well known of his revival of the Manhunter series in 2004 where, with artist Jesus Saiz, he created the character of Kate Spencer who took on the Manhunter mantle. Kate Spencer garnered a lot of praise from fans as a strong female character and the first woman to become the Manhunter. So much so that after the series was cancelled with issue #30 it returned a year later for 8 more issues. Kate has returned to the DC Universe several times, written again by Andreyko and once by Gail Simone.
Possessing what seems to be the rare talent of writing strong female characters made Marc Andreyko a clear choice to pick up the writing duties on Batwoman who’s run with J. H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman had left fans up in the air as to what would happen to the character Kate Kane. While speaking with Andreyko, we talk about the direction he wants to take Kate into, new characters he’s bringing in or old characters he’s bringing back, and even hints at an interaction with The Batman in the most recent Batwoman Annual, which is out now.
Check out our interview here and become a become a fan of Marc Andreyko!
