When you are at Comic-con your backpack is your life source. We have learned the hard way. You should take our advice. If you don’t pack enough you are screwed. If you pack too much you are screwed. Before this turns into a bad bedtime story let’s review some things that are on the “Must Pack” list.
• Sunscreen- It’s not known as Sunny San Diego for nothing. The sun is always out. Always. Oh and we don’t have many trees. Like maybe two downtown. The lines are long and your skin needs protecting!
• Sunglasses and a hat- See my reasoning for the sunscreen above.
• A small notebook and pen- Who knows who you will run into. A few years back Elizabeth and I were standing at the stoplight waiting to cross and a cab pulled up and Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki hopped out. So you just never know who you might get an autograph from.
• A water bottle- I have a metal one. Some people reuse an empty water bottle. Whatever you want is cool just don’t forget the vessel that holds the water! There are water fountains all around to fill them up. You just don’t want to get stuck paying crazy prices for water. It makes less trash too. See, you do help the environment. Yay you!
• A light jacket- I know I just said it is always sunny, but when the sun does go down it is chilly by the water. Yes, I am speaking like a true weather wuss and think it is time for a wool coat if it is 60 degrees here in San Diego, but trust me. Bring the hoodie.
• Snacks- Nobody wants to buy 8 blueberries at Starbucks for $2. Bring some crackers and fruit or whatever you like.
• Trolley Pass- If you are visiting San Diego or live here you need to take advantage of the Trolley system. Every year they have a Comic-Con pass that has a cool design on it. If you aren’t into paper you can purchase the pass on their mobile app on your phone. But keep in mind there are workers that check your trolley pass so if your phone dies you will have to buy another pass.
• Tissues and Hand Sanitizer- No need to go into detail about that. Ewwww.
• Pain reliever- Headaches happen. Your feet will hurt. You might need a pain reliever.
• Money- Bring all the monies. You will want everything you see so bring the dough!
• A light blanket- Sometimes the only place to sit is the grass or the cement. Pop a squat and sit down on your blanket.
• Deodorant- For the love of all that is holy. Use the deodorant. Several times a day.
Also note the hideousness of my backpack. It helps my friends find me easier.
The most important thing is to have fun! Take tons of pictures and annoy all of your friends that didn’t get passes. I mean, share with your friends that you feel really bad for.
Please let me know the things that are on your “Must Pack” list.
Have a great time.
