I know it was several days ago that the Sherlock panel was announced, but to be honest I just now calmed down enough to form a rational thought in my head. The fangirl meter is off the charts! It is rumored that Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch will be in attendance for the Marvel panel for Doctor Strange so hopefully he will spend the night in beautiful San Diego and wake up for the Sherlock panel to make all of the Cumberbitches’ dreams come true.
Confirmed for the panel is Amanda Abbington (Mary Watson), Mark Gatiss (Mycroft/Co-Creator/Executive Producer/Writer), Steven Moffat (Co-Creator/Executive Producer/Writer) and Sue Vertue (Producer). Since Amanda Abbington’s real life partner is Martin Freeman (John Watson) it would be super if he would show up too. That is totally just a hope and I haven’t even heard a whisper of it. That is all part of being a fangirl. If something doesn’t happen the way you want just dream it up in your head and maybe write a fanfic about it. Problem solved.
The panel starts at 10am on Sunday in Hall H. I can see the convention center from my desk at work and I bet that line for Hall H will start soon. The panel is going to be moderated by the wonderful Chris Hardwick (Nerdist). Hopefully the panel members take pity on us Sherlockians and bring some sort of San Diego Comic-con exclusive trailer or something. One can hope. So, Moffat, if you are reading this, please don’t make us beg. Although, we will. As much as you want. Seriously.
Anyway, I was fortunate enough to ask Benedict Cumberbatch a question at Comic-con in Hall H two years ago when he was there for Dreamworks Animation Penguins of Madagascar (or as Benedict would say it, Pengwings of Madagascar). I added the photo to the end of this post. I asked him what attracted him to the role of Classified because he has played so many serious roles. He was lovely and looked right at me while he did his usual rambling when answering a question. Unfortunately for me I was so excited and nervous I didn’t hear a damn thing he said. I was concentrating on not passing out. I listened to it later that day on the internet. I sounded like a dork. But hey, I am one.
