I finally got the chance to unbox one of Hasbro’s SDCC 2017 Exclusives: the Transformers The Last Knight Voyager Class Optimus Prime. The details are excellent, the figure is sturdy and easily posed, and I had a great time getting photos (much to the amusement of my neighbors, who you think would be used to seeing outdoor Transformer photo shoots by now.) See below for all the pics!
Transforming Optimus was…interesting (I’ve only transformed about a dozen new Transformers in the last decade, and this one is quite the puzzle.) The wheels on his legs are the most difficult part: the diagram is helpful up to a point but then the low-contrast photos don’t show all the detail that I’d like. I know figuring it all out is part of the fun of transforming the toys, but I ended up googling full-color pics to see exactly how they were supposed to look, and even then I’m not sure I got it 100% correct. Feel free to shout out in the comments if you can see the mistakes, after going from truck to figure and back I’m sure I missed swiveling a panel someplace.
I do love all the details though, like the teeny tiny Autobot insignias on the wheels, or the definition in the fingers. The head and neck have nice swivel points too, very helpful for capturing a different expression if you’re posing him for photos. And the wide base of the feet with the sturdiness of the legs and waist meant he had a very solid stance that held up very well if you’re repositioning him constantly in an attempt to get just the right shadow. Not that I ever do that. Ahem. Enjoy the pics!
