Review – The Post

By guest columnist KataKinema.

The Post tells the true story of The Washington Post’s publisher, Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep), and editor, Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), who have to overcome their differences and all other obstacles in order to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets to the public, risking their career and their freedom. In principle, this movie is about a battle between the freedom of the press and national security.

This movie is exciting, because it always progresses, one conflict after the other. These conflicts force our protagonists to make hard choices, risking almost everything they have. Furthermore, the combo of Streep’s and Hanks’ performances, great cinematography, and splendid production design have made this movie a blast to watch.

In spite of the those things, unfortunately, this movie is unbalanced, because it focuses more on Hanks’ character and doesn’t pay enough attention to Streep’s character. Even when it does, the motivation behind Streep’s character to risk almost everything she has is a bit unclear. In addition, the story is predictable so the ending is quite anticlimactic.

In conclusion, the narrative is somewhat unsatisfying, but it is still intriguing af.
