Find out how the Warframe community and developers rallied together leading up to the game’s latest update, after the jump!
This week, Warframe received the largest update in the history of the game after months of anticipation. The final days and hours before a game’s release can be a hellish time for developers, with the dreaded “crunch” time being a hot issue in the gaming world at the moment. With that in mind, this week developer Digital Extremes and the Warframe community joined to try and makes things just a little bit less crazy for the hard-working minds behind the Fortuna update. Together, they set a great example showing that things don’t have to be quite so toxic in the gaming world.
On Wednesday, the day before the release of Fortuna, Digital Extremes was racing to finish the new update. In the Warframe subreddit, a thread was created by user “spacesheepie” that featured a beautiful “Tenno Against Crunch” poster, expressing concern for the developers that they don’t overwork themselves. The thread rocketed to the top of the subreddit, with many users expressing their support for Digital Extremes and stressing that the developers not work themselves too hard to get the release out. The next day, game director Steve Sinclair offered a rare insight into the final moments before a major game release by showcasing his work live on Twitch. Over 47,000 fans tuned in to support the developers and share their excitement.
With so many stories in the news today about developers being treated as faceless, soulless cogs in the machine, Digital Extremes and the Warframe community continue to show the great things that can happen when “we all lift together.”
