This year at WonderCon I found something…something I never knew I was looking for. And it’s called: Unstable Unicorns. Or as I will now refer to it as, “The Best Game Ever.”

Designed by the creator of TeeTurtle, Unstable Unicorns features a combination of stellar artwork and carefully calibrated gameplay for an infuriatingly magical experience. Through a combination of unicorn trickery and blind faith, we raised over $1,800,000 on KickStarter to make Unstable Unicorns a reality! But trust us, this game is f***ing awesome. With rules for 2-8 players and 4 killer expansions, Unstable Unicorns will be your new game night go-to.
And they were right. Since purchasing the game, it has become a go-to for game nights in my house. The description of the game is very accurate but that doesn’t do the game justice, because the game is so much more than that. It’s laugh out loud funny with its perfect crude humor and super adorable yet evil art. This is a perfect game for someone with my sense of humor.
Every player is aiming to build their unicorn army first; that may seem like an easy task, but in a world where you are constantly getting stabbed in the back by your friends, it is hard to pull off. To start the game, everyone has a baby unicorn in their ‘stable’. The stable is the area where you show everyone what you have currently in play.
There are three types of unicorns; baby, basic, and magic. And each card can be used in combination with others to make your unicorns even more powerful: powerful enough to destroy their friends’ stables, which is the goal at the end of the day. Back stab your friends, destroy their stables while making yours the strongest stable there is.
The game has a little bit of a learning curve to overcome at first. But once you understand the lingo and terms of the game the easier it becomes. Especially when you start seeing the strategy of screwing over your friends with the use of some of your favorite cards.
Since Unstable Unicorns’ debut the game has released four separate expansion packs: Unicorn of Legends, Rainbow Apocalypse, Dragon Expansion and the best of all the NSFW pack. Each new pack bring its own uniqueness to an already pretty unique game. The Legends, Rainbow and the Dragon packs add some D&D elements or some massive cute overloaded cards. Where the NSFW pack gives cards that are a little cruder than average. Like the marry-kill-f**k card, or the Twinkicorn that can work together with the Bear Daddy Unicorn or the ever-popular Autoerotic Asphyxiation card. Yup, this is the kind of awesomeness you get when you get this amazing card game. FYI, the NSFW pack is the best one and everyone should have it. You’re welcome.
Over all the game is just great! From start to finish, for a perfect game night this is the game you and your friends must get.
