This fall Star Trek fans will be treated to one of the most amazing shows to grace our screens, Star Trek: Picard, the return of everyone’s fan favorite Enterprise captain, Jean-Luc Picard. After 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis many, most…all fans felt this was the biggest let down of a Star Trek film. Especially being it was the last movie to feature our beloved Next Generation crew. So almost 20 years later someone decided that maybe we should revisit Captain Picard and see what’s happened to him. And thank the makers, we will.
This fall Star Trek: Picard will premiere on the CBS All Access app. Returning to the role that made him a pop culture icon is Sir Patrick Stewart. The series is set 20 years after Jean-Luc Picard’s appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis. We now find him deeply affected by the destruction of Romulus as depicted in the 2009 Star Trek film. While in that film we follow the adventures of Spock as he bounces into the JJ verse, here in the Picard series we will stay in the original universe we all know and love.
At SDCC this year in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter fans got to pay homage and get excited for the show at “Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty,”a special exhibition that had several props, costumes, and stories that trace Picard’s journey through Star Trek: The Next Generation and the Star Trek films, including his Starfleet uniforms, the Captain Picard Day banner, his Ressikan flute and even his wine from Chateau Picard, vintage 2386.
I cannot express in words how excited I am for this show. It was an absolute joy to walk through the experience and follow Picard’s life and timeline though his Starfleet career. The show looks amazing and it looks like we will indeed be seeing a few, or all, of our old crew if reports and rumors are to be believed. Either way, this is going to be a very special show and that fans will talk about for years.
