Review – Cats (2019)

This week guest reviewer Ryan Landy has a look at Cats.

Cats is a cinematic adaptation of the musical, culminating into a feline circus fever dream on acid.

An undoubtedly unpleasant experience, though not quite torturous as it strangely possesses redeemable aspects in the form of its color palette, cinematography, set design and uhhh.. nope, that’s it.

A film I entered knowing absolutely nothing about, but left, or rather retreated from somehow knowing even less. Any attempt to articulate the experience this film provides doesn’t do it justice, but its value of entertainment remains inexplicably high when viewed ironically, with its unbeatably grandiose presentation amplifying negative aspects to deafening proportions, pridefully boasting them like badges of honor.

Guaranteed to spark a powerful new generation of furries and oozing an uncomfortably bizarre sexual tension, Cats if not anything else manages to stand out as a truly memorable film, one you’ll desperately try and fail to forget.
2/10
