Review – Ford v Ferrari

Continuing our coverage of Oscar-nominated films, guest writer Tyler Kelly has a look at Ford v Ferrari, up for four Academy Awards.

I’m not giving away any spoilers because I want people to experience this movie on their own. I absolutely loved this movie; it’s literally the definition of a crowd pleaser.

Matt Damon is great in this movie; he’s hilarious, heartfelt, and incredibly well written. But, Christian Bale is electrifying as Ken Miles, and it’s instantly one of my favorite performances of the year.

The performances across the board are great, and everybody’s written extremely well. Noah Jupe is brilliant in this, and this movie reaffirmed that he is my favorite child actor working today.

James Mangold is one of my favorite directors working today, and he proves it again with this movie. He does a magnificent job here, and I would say this is one of his finest works to date. The cinematography is gorgeous, it’s some of the best I’ve seen all year.

I want to take some time to talk about the runtime, as the film is 2 1/2 hours long. I never felt that runtime. The beginning does have some slow parts, but that is probably my only complaint. The film is very fast paced, and I was constantly entertained.

The sound is nearly flawless, and it’s easily one of the best parts of the film.

I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but there is a certain sequence in the movie that is gut wrenching. It all plays out so well, and I have to give kudos to the people in front, and behind the camera. Ford v Ferrari is easily one of my favorite movies of the year, and it’s one of the best.

Conclusion:
Would I Recommend?: I think everyone should see this movie at least once. I’m sure a lot of people will enjoy it.
