DesignerCon 2020 Online – Tips to get in!

DesignerCon 2020 has moved online, and is still going on today and tomorrow. I had a little trouble getting in, and navigating once I got in, but after a few attempts I figured it out. Keep reading if you’re looking for advice, plus I’ve got images of a few things that caught my eye. (Most of them sold out already, competition is fierce, but still fun to look at.)

(This only works if you’ve already bought your ticket, which I did last week. If you’re having trouble buying a ticket you may have to try a couple times, I’ve heard the ticket page has frozen up on some people, probably because demand is pretty high. Also these are the desktop instructions, but they may help you navigate the Popshop Live app.)

On the desktop go to https://popshop.live/dcon2020. I logged in using Facebook (it only gives you the option of Facebook or a phone number, which is a little confusing because the confirmation for my ticket was my email, but when I logged in using Facebook I was able to access the show, so I guess that…worked?)

When you see the looped video of the gentleman talking, click the two diagonal arrows in the top right. This takes you into the “Discovery” area of the show.

You’ll basically see a page of “rooms” listed at the bottom. Use the left and right arrows on the side of the screen to go from one room to the next. (The arrows near the middle of the screen advance you to the next room, the arrows near the bottom of the screen scroll through the list of all the rooms.) But this is a small list of artists and sellers.

Clicking “Watchlist” at the top of the page brings up thumbnails of a lot of artist rooms, this seems like the best way to see a lot of the show. When you click on an artist page you’ll see whatever they’re live streaming, plus a list of their products. There’s a Search button at the top. Several artists I follow on Instagram have told their followers a code to enter to find them in the show. Jeremiah Ketner, for example, because he’s one of my favorites, let everybody know his code was KETNER, and searching that brought me right to his “room.” But definitely visit his instagram page too.

(EDIT – the Popshop Live app, on Android anyway, is a little easier to navigate: log in with Facebook, then click the DesignerCon Online button to enter, and the list of sellers starts right away.)

If you click on a product you’ll get more info about it, plus a button to purchase it. Above that window is a button marked “Products” and that’s how you back out of that item and go back to the list of products. (That took me a bit to find, the button disappears into the video sometimes.)

The artist in each room also has a button on the left with their name, in case you’d like more information on them, some of them include their social media contacts too.

The “Sellers” button shows you a list of “Featured Sellers,” a very small list.

Clicking “Product” at the top will bring you to a list of products currently up for sale in the live stream. The page refreshes every few seconds with more items popping in, I’m not sure if that’s just the page catching up or if new products show up when the artist ads them.

One of the “rooms” is a live customer support screen, but I think that’s more for people having trouble purchasing something, because if you make it that far into the show you’ve probably got a good idea of how to navigate already.

All of this is just what I’ve figured from flailing around in the desktop version, there are plenty of people in the show right now buying and selling so if you’ve got more advice (or have spotted some glaring errors in what I’ve said above) shout out in the comments! Please!
