This review is short and sweet because I absolutely do not want to risk spoiling even the most minute detail for anyone.
I am just going to get this off my chest because I want to shout it from the rooftops: I AM IN LOVE WITH HAN SOLO that is not played by Harrison Ford. I know, I know, what am I thinking? I am thinking after seeing this movie I am head over heels in love with Alden Ehrenreich’s portrayal of Han Solo. He had some big shoes to fill and he did it in the most amazing way. Qi’ra, played by Emilia Clarke, delivered a performance that meshed so well with the already existing characters we know and love. Of course, we love Chewbacca, played by Joonas Suotamo. I never really thought about where he came from or what he had endured before he met Han, but we find out. We see a birth of a friendship that is a bond that people only wish they had.
The movie takes us on a journey that feeds us information about characters that we love. Everyone knows Lando, played by Donald Glover. Is there anything this guy can’t do? The dynamic between Lando and his first mate is amazing. His first mate is amazing. How many times am I allowed to say amazing in a review? AMAZING!
Ron Howard captured the feeling of the original three Star Wars films. I had a warm and fuzzy feeling the entire film and it truly took me back to the first time I saw A New Hope. I love how I was calculating in my head exactly when this was taking place in the movie lineup. John Williams really out did himself with this score. It was different than all of the other movies, but damn, it was fantastic.
My cheeks hurt from smiling the entire time. I really hope to see more of Solo played by Ehrenreich. Can we get a movie for every week that happens until we catch up with what we already know? I don’t think that is too much to ask. My friend and I had a back and forth discussion about the film and he agreed that Solo delivered a film that keeps the kids in all of us wanting to be a good guy or a bad guy. An adult that has something to fight for and people that might not be blood but are family nonetheless. I guess Star Wars kind of prepared us for the lives we live today. Whether you are fighting for the dark side, a rebel, or whatever you are or want to be, just fight for what you believe in.
I hope everyone enjoys the movie. Please let me know what you think after you see it. I am just going be off by myself fangirling some more and rubbing my cheeks to get the soreness out from smiling so much.
