Hi everyone, this is Kathryn Adams.
And Elizabeth Wallace. And you’re listening to Binary System Podcast number 252. And tonight, we still don’t have a Night Vale episode because they are still on hiatus this week. But we finally watched something that has already had its third and final season. So of course now we’ve begun watching it.
But first of all, we should start with the weekly Sit Rep!
*Sound of beers being opened*
So we had the inauguration last week.
I’m so glad that that was just as uneventful as inauguration can be. I mean, obviously, I was feeling great for all of it because it was just so wonderful to have a new president and everybody looks so classy and presidential.
Isn’t that amazing: dignity.
God, yes, it is. I mean, there’s a lot of people pointed out that the scary thing is, if Trump had acted more presidential, he probably would have gotten reelected. You know, it was only like some of the crazier, more out there, honestly more irritating things that he did, to lose support of his base, but just think about: if he just had like, settled down and read teleprompters, and everything, he probably would have been there for another four more years.
Yeah. If it hadn’t been for the fact that he had to really try to fail as hard as he did at the pandemic. I mean, all you had to do was stand up and tell everybody we’re gonna get through this and wear your masks and you know, we’re America we can do the difficult thing to save us. But no, it was the constant Oh, it’s not that bad. Oh, my numbers are great. Oh, everybody just keeps talking about this, but they’re not talking about me. And just, he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t manage to be presidential about a pandemic. This probably could have been his 911 moment if he managed that. And then of course, he encouraged a riot at the Capitol. So but and those things all combined together meant that he lost but he didn’t lose by that much.
No, he didn’t. And I don’t know. I mean, I just, it was funny on the day of the inauguration. You know, we’ve talked about Doom scrolling all the time, but usually you’re doom scrolling your way through Twitter. But on the inauguration day, it was more like Joy scrolling and just all this wonderful stuff and people saying great things, but there is a limited time span that you can do that, the half life of joy scrolling before you start seeing people saying ugly things and people retweeting ugly things. So I feel like I’m back to being like getting on Twitter going oh, what awful thing is someone gonna say now?
Well, of course me looking for the drama, I was just scrolling through all the reports of all of those rioters who had publicly asked President Trump for a pardon and didn’t get one.
Nope, they did not.
And all the politicians, the Republican politicians who are coming out now saying, No, President Trump was always wrong and there was no fraud and we’re like, okay, one it would have been really great if you guys had said that, I don’t know a year ago instead of enabling him but at the same time, I’m like, better late than never.
Yeah, any kind of sanity at this point.
I’ll take it.
Yeah, but see, you’ve got all these Trump supporters who are so angry and upset and I’m trying not to tar all of them with the same brush. I mean, a lot of them are literally going through what we went through four years ago. I mean, I’ve even seen people who are putting up, like, countdown days for the number of days till we can get a new president in there. And I’m like, I was there. I did that too. I mean, it’s not real helpful. It’s not very good for your mental state. But so you got people who just, they believe things that are different than us. They’re scared, they’re angry. They feel they’re being lied to all that kind of stuff. I’m trying to give some of the benefit of the doubt. But you’ve got some of these conspiracy theorists, have you heard the one that there are people who believe that Biden actually died and that’s Trump wearing a Biden mask so Trump really is still president.
I have heard that there was a body switcheroo of some kind, and I didn’t even want to look anymore. I mean, I thought the whole idea that people are dead certain that Democrats are going to put Trump supporters in education camps. I thought that was crazy. But the whole body switching thing I saw that and like, No, I’m not even going into that.
No, I didn’t dig into that one either. I just pretty much saw the headline on that one, I’m like, NOPE. Stay away from that. Anyway, if you’re a Trump supporter, I really don’t know why you’re listening to this podcast. You know, I do actually want things to get better for everybody. Yeah.
I’m trying not to hope for some kind of schadenfreude. Or for people who didn’t vote the same way I did to have something bad happen to them. I think it would be great if four years from now people were just like wow, you’re right. This is way better.
Yeah, here’s hoping because we need a little bit of sanity. But um, let’s see what else is going on? Oh, yeah, the pandemic.
Yeah.
I think I think the new cases are starting to plateau. At this point, because I checked on the worldometer graph that I take a look at every day, and for the past four or five days has been under 200,000 new cases, which for a while it was getting close to 250,000 new cases a day. So that’s getting a little bit better. Unfortunately, they also identified a case of that new, more infectious version of the virus in North Carolina a couple of days ago, and I had to go get a test because someone near me tested positive but it was you know, they started showing symptoms a few days after the last time I’d seen them, but the word was just you know, everybody gets tested. And then somebody else that I know has managed to test positive and it’s just it feels like it’s getting a little closer.
Yeah, but you know why the cases are plateauing at the moment?
Why is that?
Because we’re more than two weeks away from New Year’s Eve.
Oh, that’s true, actually.
Yeah. So I don’t know. I hope we’re all getting close to a vaccine. Scuttlebutt says that Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine may come through, which is unfortunately instead of being like 90% effective, however, against the virus, it’s more like 70%, but it only requires one dose. And it doesn’t have to be frozen. It only has to be refrigerated. And that means that all of these world places that can’t handle all the really stringent things that have to be done with large amounts of the other vaccines, this might do better there. But you can in the end, pick which vaccine you get, you know, you’re not going to be like stuck with whichever one, but it may be that the one that you get is most convenient for your area I DON’T KNOW but I hope everybody takes this vaccine.
We’re already thinking about plans for meeting up with family in the mountains in September and I’m like, by God, we better be ready to go out and meet up with our family members by then at least,
Yeah, i hope, Ihear that they say that they think everybody should get vaccinated by the summer in California, but I don’t know if that’s like everybody or I don’t know, that might count in some really remote areas that will have a more difficult time than people like myself in a very large urban area.
I don’t know. I just I had the test. And it was not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be because I was thinking it was going to be like sci fi bad. I was expecting them to come out with a cotton swab on the end of a stick as long as your arm that’s how bad I was thinking. It’s not that bad. You kind of feel like you’re gonna sneeze afterwards because they do have to sort of scrub it a little bit up there. It’s fine. It’s fine. Nathan had to get another test the other day because another one of his co workers tested positive and he went to a drive thru one where they had you do it yourself
That’s the one Jada’s done!
Yeah. He said that’s also fine. Just he probably prefers to have somebody else do that rather than having to jam that thing up your own nose.
That’s what she said. She said when she does it, and they hand it to you, they tell you to basically just poke it up into your nose and keep going. Is it far enough? Nope, keep going. As long as if you think that you’ve gone far enough you need to go just a little bit further.
Yeah, I was really expecting it was going to feel like it was touching my brain but
That’s sort of what the pop culture thing has been saying.
Go up to your brain and hook left at your eyeball is one that I’ve heard.
I still haven’t had one yet. And there is a testing facility down the street. It’s a drive thru one for the hospital, but I haven’t researched to see, I don’t know, I I don’t have a job that requires me to go out among people. And I am not living with a person who has a job that requires them to go out with people. So I feel pretty good, but I’ll get one if I got to.
Yeah, I’m sure you’re fine.
In San Diego the positive rate of tests was at 12% for several months, we have dropped to 10% but once again, we are far enough away from New Year’s that maybe less people are sick now, I don’t know, but anyway, hope everybody is staying safe and healthy. Hope you don’t get it hope we don’t get it, hope the family doesn’t get it. But ANYWAY, on to more positive things. What have we been watching lately?
We have been watching the TV show Legion, which is not Marvel Cinematic Universe but definitely based on a Marvel comic book, right?
Yes, yes. And I wanted to ask you, did you know anything about it going into it?
I did not. I did not have a clue. I think I maybe read the blurb about somebody showing powers or…no idea. I was not expecting any of that. And I am just shocked and delighted because I think this is one of the most different things I’ve seen on TV in quite a while, and your description about its kind of David Lynch-ian except it makes sense.
Yeah he’s not gazing into his navel all the time and there’s somewhat of a coherent plot going on but because it’s a guy who has powers and is also possibly schizophrenic but maybe not and everything, the disjointed nature, like the jumping around in time and also never knowing is this actually happening or are you in the middle of a memory? I like that.
Right? Yes, that was what I was telling Nathan. I love the unreliable narrator trope. The idea that just because you’re seeing something happening is not a guarantee that that’s what’s actually happening. I mean, he could be hallucinating. He could be dreaming. He…this could have jumped back and done a little bit of scene setting for earlier or he could be remembering something and then somebody inserts themselves into his memory. Yeah, it’s all kinds of weird.
So now that you’ve watched, you’ve watched two episodes, I’ve watched five.
Right.
Now that you’ve watched two episodes. Do you know who David is?
No, like the character from Marvel?
Yeah. And I think I know who he is, but only because my friend Wade, who had really highly recommended the show, he actually led with who David is and told me that I’m like, Oh, that’s interesting. I’m five episodes in and they haven’t explicitly stated it. So I’m really curious as to when they’re going to actually drop that little piece of information because I’m pretty sure I know who he is.
Yeah.
I was assuming that it would be like two or three episodes in and they would give us that information. No, nope. We still have some more stuff. So anybody who’s listening to this, the commenters are just like, you don’t know who he is?? And like, no, they they haven’t said and I never watched any of the trailers or read any of the blurbs so I’m…I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised.
Good. Well, I I’ll tell you who the actor that played David, where I’ve seen him before, Dan Stevens. He was in Downton Abbey. He was Michael. He was like this big, major character, but I really feel like his character was much older in Downton Abbey than he’s being portrayed here. So you blew my frickin mind, when Nathan pointed out that’s where I was remembering him from. I think he’s also like, dropped a lot of weight to get that sort of kind of drug user skinniness going on. So it also threw me with that. But yeah, he’s, he’s great. I love his speech patterns, the way he’s constantly having to stop and restart because he keeps getting confused because he’s basically got voices shouting at him all the time. So they did that very well. But let me tell, you Episode One, that dance number.
Right? Oh my goodness. That’s something that Wade even told me, he said it’s a pretty weird show. One point there’s a dance number, but it actually works and I finally saw it. I’m like, Oh my god. It did.
It totally does because to have something like that work, verybody involved in the scene has got to embrace it. Totally. You can’t have any awkwardness going on. But just I mean, it was beautifully done. I liked the music, the effects going, on at one point David just like, he’s got his arms up, he kind of looks around really confused and sort of dances off to one side. Loved that.
It’s just, it was really great. I’ve heard our friend Mark Cappelletty on Twitter. He particularly loves the music in that show. I think they make really good music choices all the time. Five episodes in and I definitely agree. But it’s not like pop music. It’s not really really popular songs. I think people who are super music buffs will really get a lot of the songs but I always like that when they can just introduce me to stuff that I’ve never heard before because I I’ll be honest, I listen to top 40 radio. That’s pretty much it and I’m fine with that. But there’s a lot more stuff out there to hear.
And the show is so beautifully filmed. I mean, everything is wonderfully composed in every single shot and that’s even before they add the freaky effects going on and the lights blinking from various places and David hallucinating some scary ass demon in the corner.
So okay, so since I’ve seen five and you’ve only seen two I don’t want to spoil anything. So what was the most recent thing that happened like, those recent episodes that you watched, how did that episode end?
Okay, so David was in the MRI and he had a vision of his sister getting kidnapped by the people who were hunting for him. And he panicked and somehow managed to teleport the entire MRI machine out into the yard.
Which was a wonderful, so you got to see the scene where they’re getting him out of the mental facility.
Oh, I love that. Oh boy. That was so awesome.
The one guy who can just fling people into the air, which is so awesome because it really lets you know how terrifying that would be if somebody had the ability to just pick someone up and just rocket them off into the air.
And they just kind of vanish off into space almost, they go that fast, and there’s like gunfire and explosions and he’s moving boulders out of the way and flinging enemy soldiers and then of course they’ve got a couple of people on the team who’re just kick ass fighters taking out people with guns.
And there’s another couple characters that you’re going to hear more about after the episode that you’ve watched and some of them, I love it when they can just come up with weird powers for things, these people who are mutants, but their power is something that I have never considered before and they have a whole backstory, and they’re just fascinating. And there’s going to be some more battles where weird stuff happens.
Good. Okay, now, what I’m a little confused about with Episode One was Syd’s power and how she and David change places except not. And the only thing I can think is that is that she jumped into his mind and that was how she was able to use his powers to cause all that stuff. And he jumped into her body, but somehow, I don’t know because then they showed the the people that was rescuing Syd thought they were rescuing David.
Right,
So I guess maybe they jumped places and then temporarily looked like the other person but then after it wore off, they suddenly looked like their own selves, which is why when they rescued Syd that they thought they were rescuing David, it’s really confusing and I haven’t seen that particular power. I thought for a bit that it was Rogue.
Me too.
But it ya know, especially with her not wanting him to touch her. You know everything goes completely to hell when he does kiss her.
Yeah, though. I love the scene, because they really, like when he’s like, do you want to be my girlfriend? She’s like, Okay, you know, just basically sure. And I love when they’re just hanging out at the metal facility and they can’t hold hands so they’ve got like, a bit of cloth or a bit of rope and they’re each holding one end of that.
I was so cute.
You were the one who said that Syd looks a lot like Brie Larson.
Yeah.
And I’d say that’s true. And Brie Larson is a beautiful woman. I think the actress who plays Syd, Rachel Keller, I think she’s almost sneaky cute, except she’s sneaky beautiful, the more I see her I’m like, wow, she’s really stunning.
Definitely a very elfin look to her features, I think.
Yeah. And David is very attractive. I like every time I see David, I think so. But yeah, the story is getting more and more intense five episodes in.
Well, that was pretty intense that his friend Lenny gets killed in the first episode by getting melded into a wall, which, I feel like other than the fact that he keeps hallucinating her or having visions of memories of her, it does feel like they sort of glossed over that. Okay, you guys both kind of combined to kill her and that would be a little bit more traumatizing than I think they’ve embraced but obviously it’s a difficult situation.
Yeah. And there’s some things that they have explained five episodes in and some things they definitely haven’t. So I like that I know so much more now, but there’s so much more left to learn. And I also asked Wade, I do believe that three seasons in I do think they do have an ending. It wasn’t like it was canceled without an ending. I don’t know if that was planned or whatever I do know that they’re all done but..
Well, I, one of the things I really want to learn more about is when, I think it was Ptonomy, the memory doctor or the memory expert, when he took them back into David’s memory of his father reading him a story. But it was a story where a little boy kills his mother by chopping her head off and I just loved everybody in the room, you know, David, of course, is just kind of stunned and frozen. Everyone else in the room is going, kind of looking at each other “What’s…happening?”
And there’s a lot that, are like in the real world, are we not in the real world? Is this a memory is this psychosis is this planted we have no idea. So that was the main weird thing that we’ve watched this week. Looking forward to watching more. I’ll tell you what, so I have a CBS All Access membership. I paid for it specifically to watch Picard, but I’ve also been catching up on Star Trek Discovery, which I feel is good, but it’s funny how sometimes I step away from it and then I don’t watch it for two months, so I don’t know that it is really latched me in. Soniqua, you know of The Walking Dead fame. She’s so good.
Oh, that’s the reason why I need to watch that. Darn it. I mean, as soon as I saw that she was going to be a captain. She is a captain right, on that show?
Not really no.
Oh, heck. Well, as soon as I heard that she was going to be on the show. I thought I have got to see that. And I for some reason have not, possibly because I just couldn’t make myself buy another membership to another streaming service.
Yeah, once I get caught up with that I may pause the membership because I seriously, I didn’t watch anything on that channel for about three months, which means I was paying for that entire time and didn’t watch anything. Now I’m sort of making up for lost time. But what I randomly found, what I really want to talk about is that they have, they call it season one but it’s actually the third season of Aeon Flux. It’s not the first two seasons that we’re on Liquid Television which we’re just *chef’s kiss*. It’s the third season where they actually introduced,,,still standalone episodes, but slightly more of a plot more dialogue, certainly.
And she didn’t die at the end of every episode.
No, though. Come to think of it.does she die in any of the episodes? No, I guess not. I guess she doesn’t die in any of the third season episodes. So I was so excited, those were there. It’s high quality. It’s not like watching a bootleg copy. It really is, it looks as good as when they first broadcast it. But they’ve edited them and I don’t know why.
What sort of stuff have they cut out, I mean violence or sex or..?
No, man, there’s a lot of violence. And you were the one who pointed this out, I think there’s little things here and there. There’s the isthmus Crypticus one which is like the sexy bird people and trying to rescue them and everything. There’s a scene where Aeon goes to visit her friend to ask her friend to translate for her, her friend is a little distracted because she’s rescued this bird who’s not doing well and Aeon says “if I help your friend rally, can you promise me an all nighter?” and Aeon actually like, pulls out a little splint and splints the bird and whatever and…and that whole…that’s cut, you have Aeon showing up to ask her to translate, this little talk about the jacket, whatever, she gets her to agree to the translation she leaves, her friends like oh, do you want to take your jacket and she kind of smiles and leaves and everything, but the whole bit with the bird is cut. Why would you cut that? What’s the purpose behind that?
Because the rest of the stuff about the bird is still there. Right?
Still there. Totally there. It’s just you know the bird gets better and ends up flying back and the girl uses it to find the bird people and whatever. I guess you’re supposed to assume that the bird got better on its own. But I would assume that they were cutting for content if the only one I knew about was the one in the episode where people are trying to get past the border and the woman gets her spine shot out. Now, spoilers if you’ve never seen that episode, I can’t remember what it’s called. It’s, I mean, it’s it’s a fun episode. I liked the ending. I thought things were really interesting. But in the very end of the episode, there’s a scene briefly of a kid with no arms, and it’s the kid who had been screwing around with the defense mechanisms early on in the episode, like shooting bottle caps at it to watch the bullets fly and everything. And you realize he probably got his arms cut off because he continued to play around with the border. That is cut out completely. it ends with Trevor Goodchild saying, you know, that which does not kill us makes us stranger, which is a lovely line, but they cut the armless kid.
But they left in the bit where her legs get cut off when she gets caught on the border.
They certainly..not only that, but they left in like her getting, like, her legs get injected I guess with a numbing agent and then you see the saws come in to cut them off, you don’t see blood or anything, and then you see the thing that comes in to sew her up. They left all of that in but…the kid with no arms was apparently too far.
But they left in the bit where Trevor Goodchild has basically surgical instruments sex with the gaping hole in the woman’s spine at one point that was fine.
Yeah, but you know when Onan, is the name of the woman’s boyfriend who you know totally shows up at Aeon Flux’s house and everything and shows off the fact that he’s got that B&D outfit you know, which is the straps same like her, and she does the bit where she kind of looks at him, she’s like “No, no, no, this is all wrong.” She REALLY tightens the crap out of it. All that’s gone.
All of that’s gone? But she does have sex with him? That is still implied in the scene?
Yeah, though, it happens a few minutes later. But yeah, it’s on a streaming service. And you can see where there are commercial breaks but there are no commercials in this and everything. So I don’t, I don’t know why they’re cutting this. Is it length, is it…it’s…because it’s not all stuff that would be controversial. The bit with the bird. How was that controversial? How was that more controversial than the rest of the episode?
And didn’t you say there was one bit in our favorite episode where she’s, like, in the original version she’s
brushing her hair, so that it’s all straight and they cut out the bit where she’s brushing her hair?
They have the bit where she goes, you know, he thinks he’s copied her but she’s actually the original, and she’s in the white dress and he comes in and says something and he’s completely turned off by the fact that she’s compliant. He had this fantasy in his head. And she’s actually, you know, saying yes I will definitely have sex with you, and he’s furious and she drinks the wine that she know has been roofied and kind of passes out, and he leaves the room and says don’t be here when I come back, and he goes into his room with all the fake Aeon Fluxes and
Yeah, dude’s got a problem, obviously.
Yeah, he really does. But then it goes straight to her walking into the room with the longer hair and we kind of miss almost like…a moment. We don’t have that moment when she wakes up, realizes he’s not there, looks in the mirror, combs out her hair because, I think the meaning of that is he wasn’t turned on by her because he had this fantasy about Aeon Flux, but she walks in and she doesn’t look anything like the Aeon Flux that he knows and that’s when he’s able to do something because she’s become a real person.
Yeah, exactly. She’s managed to put a barrier in between his fantasy world now.
Right, right and that you can kind of still pick it up out of it. But you just, you lost that moment where she decided to do it and…what the hell is controversial about combing out her hair, you know, why are they cutting these things? I’m irritated. I really am.
Well, you mentioned that earlier today. So I did a search and could not find anyone even talking about the fact that those things are edited and I have to think that there are so many people out there who were fans of Aeon Flux that have just taped the episodes from when they originally broadcast. So they have no need to actually watch this. And the people who never watched Aeon Flux wouldn’t notice.
Yeah, it came out, like, even the first episodes came out in the 90s.
Oh yeah.
Kids old enough to rent a car and they’ve never..it came on before they were born. So you know it’s, it’s a lot of people rediscovering it. Yeah, I may end up…I keep pushing that, I’ve put a bunch of tweets about it and tagged CBS All Access in it and you know, Aeon Flux hashtag. Nobody’s responded, nobody. I’m like, this is weird. I’m going to end up having to buy the DVDs myself if I can’t find somebody who’s got them unbastardized.
What is it, is it the Mandela effect, where everybody remembers something that didn’t actually happen like the Berenstein Bears versus the Berenstain Bears.
I think yeah, that would be really super weird, people like “What do you mean she was combing out her hair? What are you talking about some armless kid?” Though, I found an article that did recap the episodes and they mentioned the arm. If that one gets deleted, I will say for posterity on this podcast: it totally happened.
I have to check IMDb at some point because people like writing up synopses for different episodes. For some reason I would love to write a point by point synopsis of that one episode from Liquid Television where they’re riding an elevator and she keeps on having to jump down to shoot at whatever the helicopter is trying to lower into something..
That was called Tide!
I love that one! That one is the most coherent, because you don’t know how all of them got into the situation, but you can figure out what the goal is and what’s happening.
And there’s no words, no dialogue whatsoever, and also that they can do all that and the ending. You’re like, oh, that’s what it was about!
That you don’t really get that much closure in any of the other episodes I think, where you can see: now I know what that was!
Yeah, yeah. Oh, man. Anyway, if you’re gonna watch Aeon Flux, like the last season of it, I would recommend just finding it someplace else other than CBS All Access because they’ve lost a bit.
You can’t find the episodes on YouTube. I’ve tried.
Yeah, it’s a shame.
The only other thing that I wanted to talk about was that I finished reading a novella by Tamsin Muir and she is the person that wrote Gideon The Ninth and Harrow the Hinth, which I love, and we’re not going to get the third installment of that trilogy until 2022. So I looked around and she released this novella in September of last year, and it’s called Princess Floralinda and the 40 Flight Tower and it’s a fairy tale. It is messed up. It is wild. It’s done in this very storytelling like tone, but it really goes into depth about the details of what it would be like to be trapped in one room at the top of a tower with 39 different levels with a different set of monsters on each level and and like having to cannibalize the monsters to make weapons or supplies for the next floor that you go down to and it’s, I liked it, but it’s weird.
Okay, all right. That’s good. Yeah, I haven’t started a new book yet. I’ve been reading old comic books and doing…it’s comfort watching TV or comfort reading or whatever. But that Harrow the Ninth and…what is it Harrow the Ninth and Gideon the Eighth?
It actually starts with Gideon the Ninth and then goes to Harrow the Ninth.
Oh, okay. All right. I need to read those. I think they sound like they’re right inside my wheelhouse of things that I would like also the covers are gorgeous.
I love the covers, especially the second one Harrow the Ninth I just, everything about it, love it.
But I guess that’s it for this week, so make sure to check out pixelatedgeek.com for all the book reviews, the movie reviews, the comic book reviews, the fan art galleries, what’s our next fan art gallery gonna be?
That’s a good question. If anyone would like to put in a request just go ahead and leave a comment. All five of you.
Digging for fan art on Twitter and Instagram is my favorite, I love it. Anyway, all that and more pixelatedgeek.com. So I think next week, we may actually have a Night Vale episode.
We will, they should be back from hiatus. So we will have to listen to that and we will have to talk a little bit more about Legion and we will have to talk about Lore Olympus which you have not read the latest installment yet.
No I keep forgetting, Sunday rolls around. Just…I’ve been waiting for it all week long and then Sunday comes around I completely forget it exists.
Well let me tell you there’s a new character that’s introduced in this one and I think from the tone in the comment section, it’s someone that everybody’s been waiting a long time for.
All right, okay, that’s good. What we also need to do is we also need to compile a list of things that we forgot to mention in the 250th episode. We knew that there were going to be things that we missed, but I just realized today we never mentioned Oglaf.
No we didn’t. That’s a great comic and it’s, man, not for children, not for work.
No, do not look at it on your work computer or..it is like…it’s hardcore, fantasy cartoon porn.
Full on porn definitely.
It really is yeah, they’re not, they’re not hiding anything behind the fig leaf whatsoever, but it is frequently hysterical.
Yeah. And other things that we forgot to mention. We didn’t mention the TV show Hannibal.
Nope.
We didn’t mention the TV show Love, Death, and Robots.
Yeah, yeah. I wonder how long it’s going to be before we get another season of that one and what it’s going to be like because I think the new director of the episodes, who kind of like compiles everything, I believe there’s a woman in charge now, so might help some of the more problematic elements in it.
It’s so weird that you definitely didn’t like The Witness, and I have watched that through a bunch of times. And I don’t know why, I think possibly because the ending circling around to the beginning is just such a fascinating idea. And you have to wonder if these two characters are, were they, were they like victim and murderer, were they both witnesses to something that they decided not to act on and their punishment in the afterlife is to constantly go back and forth between murder and witness.
Yeah, I don’t know. I have actually rewatched it a few times. And I still, I mean just you know, naked girl running through the street terrified for her life. I’m like, fine, but I have to admit the animation is gorgeous.
Yeah. And I don’t really feel like there’s the uncanny valley going on, like you have in Beyond The Aquila Rift, which is very pretty but it obviously looks very airbrushed and not very natural, whereas The Witness is a little bit more cartoony and thus easier for your brain to take. And I think that’s the same thing with Sonnie’s Edge, that they go just a little bit more cartoony with the faces to make it so that your brain isn’t struggling to identify all the places where it’s kind of human but wrong.
Yeah, I’ve watched Sonnie’s Edge a few times, I love it. I mean, I think the possible lesbian relationship towards the end is a little male gazey, but that’s fine, you know, I just…it’s funny. I always feel like Sonnie, her design looks so much like what’s his name? Who played the Punisher like ..
Really?
I watched that I’m like, it looks like a female version of him. And I wouldn’t have thought that would have worked, but it really does. So um, I’ve watched that one and I’ve watched Three Robots a bunch of times, and Zima Blue a bunch of times. Those are my favorites. Anyway, yeah, so that was a little digression but I’m sure we will figure out something to talk about next week, in addition to Welcome to Night Vale because we always do, so one way or the other we will talk to everybody in one week.
Talk to y’all later.
Not sure what else *frustrated sigh* I need to find a good segue here.
Barp. Scuse me.
