Binary System Podcast #528 – WTNV #296 “Emergency Alerts” and Better Call Saul

On this week’s Night Vale recap, the city has installed a brand new Emergency Broadcast Text Alert System and Cecil is NOT THREATENED AT ALL NO SIR NOT A PARTICLE. But if he’s being honest, the incoming tornado is just a little more threatening than that so TAKE COVER.

Then we jump into season 4 episode 1 of Better Call Saul, and MASSIVE SPOILER WARNINGS if you’re not caught up because this is where we get the full fallout of last episode’s finale, and what Jimmy thinks about everthing. Man alive, the final scene this episode with Kim, Jimmy, and Howard, wow. Is Jimmy happy because it’s what he dearly wished for? Or because he made it happen? Or that he’ll never get blamed for it? Or that Howard is so thoroughly miserable? Probably all of it, but boy is he pleased.

And boy weren’t WE pleased by a whole montage of Mike being an absolutely badass.

Plus there’s the usual tangents into the Empowered comic, Lindsay Ellis’s movie reviews, dream logic, male gaze vs. male gays, shoutouts to awesome junior high teachers, exploding hyperbaric chambers, and proposing we get rid of the whole confusing “tornado watch / tornado warning” thing and just say something clear like “there’s a giant tornado headed directly for you TAKE COVER.”

This episode’s outro is a clip from The Chase by 1000 Handz.

Lindsay Ellis’ breakdown of why the movie Bright was so lazy is always worth a watch. So are all three episodes of her look at why The Hobbit just didn’t work. And why Megan Fox’s character in Transformers is probably the best-written character in the whole movie, but you wouldn’t know it from how she’s filmed.

The Swindled episode about the exploding hyperbaric chambers is probably not for everybody, but it’s very interesting and not quite as horrible to listen to as you might think.

The movie 28 Weeks Later is not very good but our Watch Party conversation is fun.
