Spare Change: Batman Arkham City Collector’s Edition

The Dark Knight strikes again with the release of Batman Arkham City. But is this collector’s edition a hero or just a zero?

Batman: Arkham City is the sequel of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Arkham Asylum is one my favorite collector’s editions of all time. Batman: Arkham City has an enormous task to exceed the high expectations that the original set.

Packaging

The box has a black, white, and red motif with a portrait of Batman on one side and The Joker on the other. The case is covered with a clear sleeve which allows you to view the Batman statute. The sleeve slides off, allowing the box to fall open. The inside panels are decorated with Arkahm City, which surround Batman as he surveys the streets. Underneath the statue is a sliding drawer compartment which holds all the goodies.

Physical Goodies

Batman Statue: he statue was created by Kotobukiya. This super-detailed statue continues the black and white theme of the packaging and looks fantastic. What stands out for me was the Bat Suit’s impressive amount of detail.

Batman Gotham Knight: the collector’s edition also comes with a copy of the animated film, Batman Gotham Knight which was released in 2008.

Art Book: the art book contains some great concept art. Also, the art book doubles as the case for the game.  I’m not big fan of this idea – I wish the two were separate.

Digital Goodies

The collector’s edition also comes with a digital copy of the sound track for the game, a code for the Dark Knight Returns skin, a code for the Iceberg lounge, and a challenge map.

Overall thoughts

I truly love this collector’s edition because it is an ingenious blend of digital and physical content. This collector’s edition is a must buy for Batman fans.

Priced at $99.99. You might need to break out the big bucks like Bruce Wayne, but this is totally worth it.
