Kathryn
Hi everyone this is Kathryn Adams

Elizabeth
and Elizabeth Wallace and you’re listening to Binary System Podcast number 251. sigh It’s so weird after all that build up for last week. I’m like and……251, it’s gonna keep going.

Kathryn
No changes, let’s just keep moving on.

Elizabeth
That’s right. So, we really…what we really really want to talk about this week is Kathryn finally finished watching The Good Place. But what we also want to talk about is what we didn’t want to talk about last week, because we wanted to have a celebratory tone for 250. We need to talk a little bit about the events that happened on January 6th, our birthday, but it was a little more important for reasons other than our birthday.

Kathryn
Let me just take a swig of alcohol here.

Elizabeth
Yeah, we both have drinks here but not, we’re not opening cans, everything’s just like “have a drink.”

Kathryn
This is kind of a belated sitrep. Um, yeah, so, I think, Nathan and I had gone out to pick up something on my birthday after I’d opened my presents, and we start reading the news about people converging on the Capitol, and it looks like the police are getting overwhelmed, and suddenly there’s glass being broken and they’re inside the Capitol and later on you find that somebody got SHOT, and I don’t even….I still don’t know what to think about all this, I don’t understand how it happens, it really infuriates me that everybody, except the people who died during that, were allowed to walk away, I mean somebody pointed out the woman who was killed, the protester. They said that if she had been black, the Left would be painting murals for her and doing candlelight vigils, and I had to stop myself from responded to that tweet by commenting, if she had been black, she never would have been able to get that far inside the Capitol.

Elizabeth
God no.

Kathryn
And it’s just, like, the whole difference between how the protesters were being treated in all of this just infuriates me.

Elizabeth Wallace
My thing, that infuriates me is, they’re screaming Trump’s slogans, they’ve got Trump flags, they’re there at a protest to protest the Electoral College which is about ready to call it for Biden, and what happens afterwards: All the Conservatives I know are saying, There’s no way the protesters were actually Trump supporters, “it was people on the left and Democrats who were just trying to make the Conservatives look bad,” I’m just like, I can’t even, I mean how do you even argue with that. I mentioned to dad, I said, you know, dad, who of course is very strong liberal and watches all of the CNN. He said, I don’t understand how any of Trump supporters can justify what has happened. And I said well there’s a lot of them, what would you say to people who said that it wasn’t actually Trump supporters, it was just Democrats in disguise, and dad said you would just have to walk away from them because it’s like arguing with somebody who thinks the world is flat, and I’m like, Yeah, that’s true, but Dad doesn’t know that we’ve got some FAMILY MEMBERS who were arguing that way.

Kathryn
Oy. Yeah. And it’s been pretty interesting how all the prominent people that have gotten arrested for this by now are all diehard Trump supporters and what’s even more interesting is all of these people live streamed themselves doing this, live streamed themselves talking about how they were gonna do this they were gonna storm the Capitol everybody better watch out, they go inside they’re standing next to the broken glass, they’re cheering that they’ve taken over the Capitol, and now they’re all saying, “well it wasn’t actually me doing anything, you know, and I didn’t I, when I said stormed the capitol that wasn’t what I actually meant and I never broke anything and I’ve never stolen anything.” It’s amazing how many people just like somehow accidentally got pushed into the Capitol and didn’t touch anything when they were there, isn’t it.

Elizabeth
Yeah, and of course, we’re in the middle of a pandemic and a lot of people have tweeted this, like these guys on the far right, they can’t even wear a mask when they’re breaking into the Capitol Building to disguise their identity. I mean, my Lord above and of course, now their stories about COVID outbreaks because of it and it’s just…

Kathryn
Is there really I haven’t seen that yet.

Elizabeth
Well I…certainly the people, Congress people, there’s been an actual outbreak.

Kathryn
Oh yeah, because they were trapped with their colleagues who didn’t want to wear masks.

Elizabeth
Yeah, so it’s just I, I mean I can’t, I don’t even know how to argue with people, obviously this was horrible, people actually died, they broke into the Capitol, they were interfering with the democratic process and…

Kathryn
They put up a friggin NOOSE.

Elizabeth
They put up a noose, yeah it was all like “Oh I got caught up in the moment and I brought all my woodworking supplies because I was caught up in the moment I got it set up early and checked my plane tickets and put all that stuff in the luggage” and ugh it’s just, but they, they’re either…they’re either saying that it wasn’t really them, or they’re saying well it was justified because they’re stealing the election, and I’m just like, what was it in Georgia that Trump didn’t think that the election overseer in Georgia was strongly protecting the election enough and trying to prove fraud so he put one of his own guys in place and his own guy comes forward and said there was no fraud in the elections in Georgia! So…

Kathryn
Yeah attorney Bobby Christine has, he actually said it surprised him because he thought there would be a truckload of cases of voter fraud especially stuff to, you know, investigate, and he said there was two, and he dismissed both of them because there was nothing there. So, even the people who were put in place by the President, are saying, No, this isn’t happening.

Elizabeth
Yeah, and it’s, I mean I talked to a cousin in Alabama and basically she is where we were four years ago. She’s terrified. She thinks that people are going to come and get her and her family she thinks that everything’s going to be horrible. She thinks that she can’t trust what people are saying. But it’s like he said, you know, we’ve got high up, Republicans who are saying no, there’s no fraud, it was a safe election and they don’t believe them because they are only listening to the President’s line that said that…Trump is saying it, they believe it no matter what, and I don’t know how to argue with that I really don’t know, when they’re saying, I mean, some of my co workers at the newspaper were saying well you need to let them know that you know, trusted news sources who fact check and have really strong journalists are saying there was no fraud and I’m like, these people are saying that LA Times and the BBC and CBS and CNN, they’re saying that they’re all perpetuating a fraud, and how do we answer that when they don’t even believe any of your sources. I just don’t want to do.

Kathryn
Literally the only thing they will believe is someone saying that Trump won, and I don’t know how we’re going to get past this and it’s kind of hard for me to talk people down who are panicked about what the Biden presidency is going to look like, because we were really panicked that the Trump presidency was going to be bad, and what’s happening? Four years later and over 400,000 people in this country have died because of a pandemic that Trump didn’t even bother to half ass a response to, and we’ve got people invading the Capitol

Elizabeth
Yeah, yeah. And so it’s like, well, we were right.

Kathryn
laughs

Elizabeth
And we were right to be worried and I just I hope for their sakes, I remember reading something on Twitter where someone’s just like, we on the left, we are going to win this election and then we are going to get all of these people, decent pay and medical bills paid for and Medicare and whether they like it or not, you know, and I’m just I’m kind of hoping that it’ll be what it is that four years from now, all these people who just hate the left and can’t stand the left, I hope their lives are BETTER.

Kathryn
laughs Well, and yeah, you remember how people reacted against Obama trying to get everybody health care and for that he was apparently worse than Hitler, so I just, any reaction to trying to make people’s lives better is somehow bad? For some of these people? Yeah, we’re not being very nuanced at this no, we’re really not. It’s been a long four years.

Elizabeth
Yeah, and that’s the other reason why it’s really hard to kind of have any sympathy for people on the other side because these are the people who, you know wore T shirts that said Trump won, fuck your feelings, you know, we’re gonna drink your liberal tears and I’m like, but now you want us to be nice to you, you know it’s, ugh. Anyway, we could, we can certainly go on and on about this..

Kathryn
But it also is kind of unsettling because last time we had one of these conversations was before January 6, and the episode we recorded dropped after January 6. So now we’re recording on Sunday. And on Wednesday is going to be the actual inauguration and this episode will drop after everything that was going to happen has already happened so. Here’s hoping that we are just not going to have something too momentous happening on Wednesday I want it to be boring, let’s get a nice long boring inauguration.

Elizabeth
laughs That’s…when they declared it, the presidency…when they declared the election for Biden and then he had a speech, and Kamala Harris got up and spoke and it was really eloquent and wonderful and Joe Biden got up there and he gave a speech and somebody was tweeting, they’re like, “oh my god this is so boring. I’m so happy!” You know..

Kathryn
laughs

Elizabeth
I really look forward to presidential statements where I’m not just ENRAGED all the time I’m just like yawns “Oh, this is kind of boring. Alright, I’m gonna go to bed.”

Both
laughs

Elizabeth
Here’s hoping. So, Anyway, on to much more happier news, you finally watch the final season of The Good Place.

Kathryn
Yeah and I checked and it took me just under a year to watch that last season so because the last season finished up in January of 2020, so yay for me.

Elizabeth
Oh my god, so I had said before, I really enjoyed the final season, I didn’t think it was quite as good as some of the other seasons, what did you think as a whole?

Kathryn
I agree. Yeah, I thought, I mean it was definitely good, it is some of the best TV out there. I just think the other three seasons were a little bit better, but what you had said really rings true: they stuck the landing. A perfect job and it really is. I mean…so we had an episode where–

Elizabeth
Oh by the way, before you say anything we should just go ahead and say, giant spoiler warnings for the final season of The Good Place if you haven’t watched it, we are about to talk about all the things so just go ahead and skip forward a little bit and we’ll talk about Lore Olympus after this.

Kathryn
So yeah, the second to last episode ended with them in the Good Place, and they fixed the problems. So it was lovely for them to resolve that. But then, the final episode was so poignant, because it is dealing with a question that I’ve had before, it’s like you go to heaven and you’re happy forever. Really. I mean, how does that last forever. And that was exactly what they were dealing with in the second to last episode that there were people who had made it into the Good Place centuries before the point system started really screwing with everybody and modern society making it impossible to be an entirely good person. But these people have been there forever, with nothing but happiness, and they were all zombified because yeah, how do you deal with that we just basically burn out your pleasure receptors and nothing is special anymore, and the way they fixed it was fine make it so that it could stop, and I heard that it was like, I don’t know if I would, but I don’t know if I would, I’m not sure I could, aaaa!

Elizabeth
Yeah, exactly. I liked it that they made it so that it could stop, it was, I don’t know just giving people a choice, I suppose, it’s like if you’re happy in heaven, and you want to stay in heaven forever and ever and ever and ever you perfectly can, but if you’ve got to the point where you realize, I’ve done everything that I need to do. I have, I’ve had all the time in the universe to accomplish anything I want to accomplish, and now I have, I think I’d be good to just be at peace. Yeah and just kind of go off into the universe into whatever happens then.

Kathryn
Well that and they made it really clear all the people that were cheering in the Good Place when they were told that there was an ending, they could just walk through this archway and I guess vanish into the universe to become one with the universe again. And I think they made it clear that people didn’t just automatically dive for that arch, that he was just the fact that they knew, this isn’t going to go on forever and ever and ever, that they could actually enjoy things more and I liked that. I like that a lot.

Elizabeth
I love the concept, I love the concept of having all the time that you want to do stuff, I mean that’s just a nice idea to not worry about any type of deadline of any sorts, it’s just, what do you want to learn how to do what do you want to do what do you want to see, if it’s a beautiful, beautiful idea but it is also, things are special, if you know that there is probably an ending, so it made their time in heaven an even more special.

Kathryn
And I like Tahani’s solution to living in the Good Place the best, that what she wants to do was to learn how to do stuff, like doing…making furniture, paving a driveway, you know, all this stuff that she wanted, and she crossed everything off the list and she was ready to walk through the arch, until she decided no, there’s something I haven’t learned to do yet. I have not learned to be an architect in the Good Place to make neighborhoods for people and I’m just, way to go Tahani, you had the best choice I think, I mean I can respect everybody else’s choices but hers were fantastic.

Elizabeth
I liked how…of course with Jason and Janet, and of course with Eleanor and Chidi, they were, you know, their love for each other was part of what made heaven special and part of their, their reward and everything, but they kind of made it clear that that didn’t have to be everybody’s reward, I mean for Tahani it wasn’t, it wasn’t like a romance thing that was most important to her it was doing stuff and learning things and accomplishing stuff and everything, but I didn’t even realize that until months after I watched it I was just like, oh well, they didn’t feel like a happily ever after had to have you hooking up with somebody, you know, that’s kinda, very nuanced.

Kathryn
It is, especially since they’ve made it pretty clear that this whole idea they had in season one of soulmates, was really a simplified concept, that it was kind of twee to think that “oh everybody in the universe has somebody they’re paired with” and I think Michael was the person that explained to Chidi that soulmates aren’t something that happen, they are something that you make, and I thought that was a lovely little distinction there.

Elizabeth
Oh that episode where we got to see all of Chidi’s lives and everything all the various soulmates that they had him with.

Kathryn
That was my favorite episode of this season, getting to see all that, and poor Chidi, taking it on himself at nine years old, to save his parents’ marriage, which he did but not in the way that he thought he did, he thought that he had done an absolutely perfect presentation and come up with the answer that his parents could not argue with, when in reality, what he did was, remind them that they did actually love each other and that he needed them, and did it in a way that only Chidi could, so that was so sweet.

Elizabeth
And then we got to see Eleanor, when she heard the story she said “yeah I just, I don’t know, I kind of wished you’d actually been able to just be a nine year old kid instead of learning that you had to find the solution to everything,” and I’m like oh, they were so sweet together, I love them.

Kathryn
I was so prepared to hate Eleanor in season one and wow, what a transformation that character had

Elizabeth
So wonderful. Oh my god, you know what one of my favorite episodes was?

Kathryn
What was that?

Elizabeth
When the Judge is going through all the different Janets and trying to find the clicker thing.

Kathryn
laughs

Elizabeth
I loved every, I loved when she went into the Bad Janet’s world, and you’re looking at all the stuff in the background, and there’s like this billboard at one point, it says something like “Pirates of the Caribbean part 26” I’m like yeah, that would be something in the Bad Janet’s world, yeah.

Kathryn
Bad Janet’s void was all covered in trash and things were on fire.

Elizabeth
Yes, god, I loved every bit of that I just loved it. I hope that, I, can they demarbleize them? Because you saw towards the end of that episode you saw a jar full of marbles and I’m just like, well I hope those Janets are okay.

Kathryn
That was what I was wondering, because when they had that plot in the last season where they kidnapped Janet, the main Janet, and they said that they had marbleized her in order to kidnap her, but I don’t. Did that happen or..

Elizabeth
I can’t remember, I’m not sure that they actually went forward with it, I don’t know.

Kathryn
I don’t know, or they were like trying to make them feel bad by saying they had marbleized them, because I do remember that idea when Janet was in the…it was in the second season, when Tahani and Jason were dating, and it meant that Janet was just like spontaneously creating weird things, because she was freaking out over it, and she told Michael to marbleize her, and I thought that meant he was permanent.

Elizabeth
Yeah that’s what I thought too. I don’t know, who knows, if the universe is basically the Judge’s plaything she just might change it around at some point I don’t know.

Kathryn
Right, cuz she could make it so that Michael was a human, which was also a lovely choice.

Elizabeth
That was a great part that was a wonderful… I loved how just completely touched he was, Ted Danson really sold that moment so well, you can see him getting choked up and starting to cry and everything. Who knew that I would like Ted Danson in something better than I’d always loved him in Cheers.

Kathryn
I know right?! I think this is one of the only things that I’ve seen him in since Cheers and now I’m like, What is he doing now I wanna watch what he’s doing now.

Elizabeth
He did that show Becker, which I guess was pretty popular I suppose, I think he was on one of the CSIs at one point, but every time I saw him in something else I was like this is fine, I just don’t like him as much as I liked him in Cheers. And now I’m like oh my god this is amazing!

Kathryn
laughs He had some wonderful little moments like when they were trying…what was it, was it Brent, who was the absolute dick in their group?

Elizabeth
I think so yeah.

Kathryn
Yeah when they were trying to come up with some way to have him see that people cared about him so that he could care about other people and they dropped him into a pit. And then, so that to try to convince the other people to work together, and they’re sitting in Michael’s office and they’re just fretting because he doesn’t know what…he’s thinking like, “I, nobody’s gonna want to rescue him. Maybe we could have just thrown Chidi down there, or a panda, or donuts” he takes his glasses off and starts rubbing his face “everybody likes donuts.”

Both
laughs

Kathryn
I don’t know why I thought that was so funny.

Elizabeth
The reaction shots from everybody are so good, like there’s always something going on, when they were trying to come up with solutions or Michael was saying you know “has anybody come up with any reasons why the Judge shouldn’t end the universe,” and Jason said, “because it would be a bummer,” and Michael said “yeah yeah whatever” and Jason was like “Are you going to write it down?” and Michael scribbling noise “…Did you actually write it down or did you just do a scribble scrabble?” and Michael rips the paper off, and Eleanor starts talking, but you see kind of in the background, Michael holding up the piece of paper that says “BUMMER” on it. And Jason’s like “Yeah!” So cute.

Kathryn
I was so touched with Jason leaving, deciding that he’d…to get a perfect, play a perfect video game, playing as his hero on the whatsit Jaguars? I’m sorry guys I don’t know sports.

Elizabeth
I don’t know, I’m sorry.

Kathryn
That THAT was the moment, I read a review of the final episode, and someone said that that was so Jason, that it wasn’t that he would want to meet his hero or become his hero and play, but to play a video game as his hero was what did it for him, that he decided now he was complete with the universe.

Elizabeth
That was, everything…boy, the episode where they all got to do their perfect funerals together?

Kathryn
laughs was also good. How much fun they all had together.

Elizabeth
Just seeing them grin as people were saying nice things about them. Oh it’s so neat. But yeah, with Jason…I loved his party in the end, I loved his dance group, they were badass.

Kathryn
The dance group was awesome.

Elizabeth
Yeah, it’s amazing. I kind of wonder just looking at the reaction shots of Michael and Eleanor, I wonder if the actors and actresses, watching that we’re seeing for the first time and just being delighted, that makes me really happy.

Kathryn
That makes me very happy too, but I have, some of the stuff that happened around Jason is some of my favorite bits, I need to go back to the first season, when Jason and Janet get married and Tahani and Eleanor are just sitting there, like lounging back in the chair watching the proceedings, talking about how weird this was and when Janet asks if there’s anyone who has any objections, and both Eleanor and Tahani “OH my god yes thisis a TERRIBLE idea.

Both
laughs

Elizabeth
Honestly, and I just, I loved all of them, I thought they were so fun, but honestly I think most of the time, Jason was really one of my favorites, you know, he’s trying to talk to Chidi, Chidi’s accidentally hurt his feelings about Janet and Jason’s telling Chidi “well I don’t know maybe we’re not meant to be together, maybe it’s like the Montagues and the Capulets” and Chidi goes “how did she know that” and he’s like “dude, I have read SOME books.” Just a random toss-away moment.

Kathryn
I think it’s because I never expected some of the stuff that came out of Jason’s mouth, especially when he made sense about stuff, but then…

Elizabeth
Exactly.

Kathryn
In the final bit that he had, that he actually hung around for like, 1000 Jeremy Bearimys, I think that was the unit of measurement they had, just waiting for Janet to come back so he could give her the pendant that he had made for her, and he’s sitting there talking about how he just learned how to be one the universe and Janet said “Oh, like a monk.” And Jason said “..wha?” Of course he didn’t get it!

Elizabeth
His…I thought his ending was so pitch perfect I mean, I thought it was sweet and I was gonna miss him and everything but when he came back and she does a bit “like a monk” I was just, my heart just broke with happiness, I’m like yes, that’s perfect. It’s so good.

Kathryn
And then to have him go through the archway and say “hey Chidi, wait up!” Love it.

Elizabeth
Yeah, that was it, with no ceremony whatsoever it’s like “Yaaah!”

Kathryn
I read the trivia about this episode and apparently that archway was leftover from a wedding.

Elizabeth
I saw that!

Kathryn
Oh how lovely, they basically just touched up a little bit and then put it in place and that was it, they didn’t have to do any more set design on that.

Elizabeth
Oh it’s so lovely. And then, Chidi, you know, he and Eleanor are so happy and having such a good time, and she’s trying so hard to convince him not to go. I loved how he said that the moment when he realized, and he had realized it long before he told her, was that her mom and his mom were hanging out with them, and his mom gave her a kiss on the cheek, and her mom wiped the lipstick off and that moment he was just like, that was, he was at absolute peace, I think it’s because all the people that he loved, were all together and they just, ah, it was just like this.. I love that it was just a nice quiet just normal kind of moment but for him that was the signifier that was he had everything he had ever wanted.

Kathryn
Man and the music that they played when they were watching their final sunset and she asked him, like, “if you can do something for me, just say goodbye now and be gone when I wake up” like oh. Now, a reviewer pointed out that he thought it was strange that they still needed to sleep in the Good Place, and I’m just like, Well, it wouldn’t be heaven if you couldn’t sleep!

Elizabeth
Oh man, having a wonderful Saturday morning where you don’t have anything you got to go do and you could just sleep in and it’s just cold enough that you got the covers on top. Yeah, yeah, that.. my heaven has sleeping yes it does.

Kathryn
Yes definitely but I thought the actor who played Chidi, I’m sorry guys I never memorize anybody’s names until like years later, he did such a wonderful nuanced job when Eleanor asked him to stay and that it would make her happy if he stayed, and then he decided, Okay, I’m going to do it, and somehow he conveyed this whole idea about it’s not him being panicky, about having to pretend to be happy, it was him, determined to show in all respects that he was happy, because that was what Eleanor needed more than what he needed, and just…and the fact that Eleanor who started out the whole series as probably the most selfish person on the entire planet, actually told Chidi, What you need is for me to let you go and I’m going to do that.

Elizabeth
And then she continued doing good things to get what’s her face in the neutral world..

Kathryn
Mandy! From the…not the good place the…middle place?

Elizabeth
The neutral place? I can’t remember, what was it called? One minute I’m-a look it up.

Kathryn
The Medium Place!

Elizabeth
Yes, the Medium Place that’s exactly it, yes

Kathryn
laughs

Elizabeth
I thought they were really determined to tie up all the loose threads…

Kathryn
Every one of them.

Elizabeth
They wanted to let you know, yeah, and the fact that Eleanor…the thing I think that convinced her that she had done everything she needed to do was when she went back to Mindy, to convince her: yes, you need to do this and it’ll be okay because I’ll make sure that Tahani is the person who kind of constructs your test and everything and she can go through the system and it will be fine. What was the name of the.. was it Kevin, the guy that Janet had created?

Kathryn
Oh, Derek! Derek, becoming like this all knowing being that had been reset so many times that he now transcended time and yet Mindy was still able to shut him off with little plunger are there.

Elizabeth
Oh god, you just think: he got smarter every time she did that, how many times that he, she’d done that for him to get that smart, oh my god.

Kathryn
And all these little things like Jeff, the guy who ran the desk at the Void at the door to Earth who liked for sending finished it by giving him a real frog!

Elizabeth
And he was so happy and Michael thought for a second that he would name it after him, and he’s like “I’m gonna name him Mr Jumpy Legs!” And Michael’s like “I thought…fine. That’s fine.”

Kathryn
laughs And Shawn, the head guy at the Bad Place, that what he wanted more than to be evil was to be in opposition with Michael because that had made him happier than he had been in millennia and I thought, such a lovely touch and that actor, with his eyebrow raises just stealing the damn scene every time he came on board.

Elizabeth
Every time, god! He was a perfect foil to Michael he really was. They were just perfectly matched against each other.

Kathryn
And I’m really feel like Janet was sadder about Michael leaving to become a human, even though she had helped to set it up, I mean when she’s saying “and when if you rent a car don’t get the insurance it’s a scam!” And it was the last thing she said to him, I’m like, oh, so adorable.

Elizabeth
Janet was… yeah if Jason was my favorite Janet was probably right there next to Jason because, just to do all of the different Janet personalities. The judge checks out the neutral Janet, she’s like, “Do you have any last words?” “These are my last words, my words are ended.”

Both
laughs

Kathryn
And I have to go back now and watch the first few seasons again, because of all the little fun things, like Janet every time someone called her a robot or a girl, I mean at one point she wasn’t even on screen, just heard her saying very quietly, “not a robot.”

Elizabeth
I heard what they filmed, I think it was when they film the scenes in Italy. She was so surprised that there were people in Italy who recognized her. Apparently a bartender told her, he’s like, “I’m also not a girl and I’m not a robot.” She’s like, Oh, that’s amazing!

Kathryn
And you know what I want. That clock in the beginning of the final episode when Janet tells Michael it’s time we’re going to be late and he looks up and there was that clock, there’s just like little pieces, whirling around unconnected with other bits and like, about five different hands, I want that clock.

Elizabeth
I do too. I want a lot of stuff in the good place. I read that the… I loved it when we found out that the reason why there were so many frozen yogurt places in the Good Place which is really the Bad Place, is that it was either Michael or Janet had decided you have to take something that’s amazing like ice cream and make it suck.

Kathryn
laughs

Elizabeth
That’s pretty amazing. I mean I like a little frozen yogurt every once in a while but I’ll be honest, where I’m eating it I’m like, this would be better if it was ice cream.

Kathryn
Yeah. laughs

Elizabeth
I feel like I could just go over and over and over all the things that I loved, but most of what I loved was just people’s reactions, the way they delivered the lines like, Tahani starts to tell a story and Eleanor said “we can’t do this right now,” she said “oh fine, to sum up” and she delivers this outrageous line and Eleanor turns around “…well now I want to hear the story.” laughs It wouldn’t have been as funny if they hadn’t had the delivery behind it.

Kathryn
Yeah, they made sure there was a bit of business going on in every scene, going on in the background, which was, I mean, and Chidi’s reactions to things I think they had something where Brent the jerk like tossed a towel in his face and Chidi catches it “Ah, WHY?”

Elizabeth
*laughs” It was always his reaction to everthing. Or when Eleanor was afraid that he was going to read her book, and everything, and she rushes in, she’s like, I love you and he said “Whoa hey, the words are great but the delivery is a little scary.” Yeah, I could just, I could go on and on and it’d just basically be me quoting from every single episode of the show instead I’m just gonna go back and rewatch all of it.

Kathryn
Yes. Every bit of it.

Elizabeth
So that’s it for the Good Place. We definitely want to talk a little bit about today’s Lore Olympus.

Kathryn
Yes because we didn’t talk about it last week, and last week had the best line ever, where Daphne realized that Apollo was pretty much dating her, either to piss off Persephone, or to make Daphne be a standin for Persephone, so she laughs a little and she excused herself on their date and goes to the bathroom and she stares into the mirror and says “no dick is worth this.”

Elizabeth
Yep, yep. That’s what…I would have never guessed that, we were trying to figure out was she tried to escape, like has Apollo been holding her prisoner and she’s escaping or is somebody else holding her prisoner and she’s trying to get to Apollo. No, she was on the worst date ever, and actually climbed out of the bathroom window.

Kathryn
And Thanatos helped her, and from the sound of the forum in the comments section everybody really wants that ship to happen. The Daphne/Thanatos.

Elizabeth
I’m not sure it will, but today’s, of course he’s…she had mentioned Persephone. and she and Persephone are definitely friendly, and Thanatos was just bitching about the fact that Hades gives Persephone special treatment and Daphne asked, she’s like, “I just don’t understand why you care so much, why does it matter, I mean, honestly, how does it hurt you?” and Thanatos just really had to stop and think about it, I think he’s just one of those “it’s that principle the thing” but it’s like none of your business dude, so I thought Daphne was really level headed about it.

Kathryn
Yeah and it doesn’t affect him in the slightest, I mean Persephone’s job and his job does not at all overlap, and it’s really not like she’s going to be taking away from his work, or I don’t know, keeping him from getting a promotion, whatever it is that he’s mad about. I think a lot of it is the fact that he likes Minthe, and he has been kind of hoping that if he helps Minthe, and helps her actually get what she wants, then somehow she will value him, and what she really wants is for everybody to hate Persephone.

Elizabeth
Yep, and that’s, we still haven’t figured out what’s going to happen there, but I mean, I like how Daphne even said sure, maybe in a professional setting that’s not so cool, but other than that… and I think, I don’t know I think Hades has been pretty good about keeping work and play, kind of separate at this point.

Kathryn
Yeah. And, well, and Daphne did the power move at the end of that conversation, she asked him for his phone and he’s like “you’re not going to smash it are you” and she glares at him and she types something and says “this is my number. Go ahead and call me when you get your act together.” I, Wow.

Elizabeth
Yeah. But, you know she’s not a perfect individual either, I mean, her friend, I think it was, I don’t know if it was Echo?

Kathryn
Yeah it was Echo, cause Echo was actually in the room when Apollo petitioned Hera to marry Persephone so Echo knew this was bullshit that Apollo was still dating Daphne, but asking to marry Persephone.

Elizabeth
Yeah, and that…she tried to tell Daphne that, she’s like I…he just asked…twice now he’s gone to two people and asked to marry Persephone, but now you’re going on a date with him? And Daphone did what a lot of people do when they hear something bad about someone they like, they either ignore it completely or they find some way to justify it, you know she just, she said “Oh, I just got to see it for myself.” It’s like when you’ve got a friend who’s telling you something bad about the dude that you’re dating, probably just need to at least listen to them and take it seriously,

Kathryn
And she mentioned to Thanatos that she had always been kind of thrilled when she got attention from an Olympian, and when Apollo would like her, what is it, what do they call it, Fatesbook is what it is in Lore Olympus, and that she would take pictures for her social media and wonder if Apollo would maybe like this shirt or this pose, she’s telling herself “Well, now it feels kind of pathetic.”

Elizabeth
Yeah, still remains to be seen what happens with that.

Kathryn
And how Apollo’s going to react to getting ditched on a date, because he doesn’t take rejection very well at all from anybody.

Elizabeth
I was actually thinking he was going to probably take it out on Thanatos, if he sees Thanatos with Daphne for any reason he’s gonna think that Thanatos took something away from, and he’s kind of in cahoots with Thanatos right now because they’re all working together to get Persephone thrown out, so that’s…hopefully that’s going to drive a wedge in there. And also we had Hara, going to the hotel where Persephone was staying, and boy Hera is certainly not connected to real life, she said, “Well this is a hovel where was she going to keep all of her jewels and clothes and the presents from the mortal worshipers” and I think it’s Echo with her and she said “well she didn’t have those with her” and Hera’s just “oh this is horrible!” Not really in touch with anybody.

Kathryn
Not really getting that Persephone was on the run and you don’t take those things with you when you’re on the run, even if you have them, which I don’t really think Persephone had.

Elizabeth
No I don’t. She hasn’t got a lot in the way of moral worshipers that I know of, certainly not after the act of wrath, anybody who knows her is not really going to be giving her presents.

Kathryn
And there was something from last week where Apollo was talking about something that had happened in the news, and Daphne was like, “Oh, is it all those swan attacks?” and it just flashes to some pictures of nymphs running away from an angry swan biting everybody. That was Zeus wasn’t it?

Elizabeth
Yeah I’m sure that was Zeus, that’s immediately what I thought. He always does that.

Kathryn
And he was in a really pissy mood the week before that, so yeah, he’s obviously taking out his aggressions on people.

Elizabeth
Mm hm. sounds like Zeus. But I guess that’s going to wrap us up for the week, so make sure to check out pixelatedgeek.com for all the book reviews, the movie reviews, the comic book reviews, the fan art galleries, ooo, I just started watching the TV show Legion, did you guys check out any of that?

Kathryn
We haven’t checked it out yet. Is it good?

Elizabeth
We’ll actually talk about that, I’m only partway through the second episode so, I think the way I tried to describe it to you guys was if David Lynch wasn’t always gazing deeply into his own navel and actually had a plot that maybe made some sense, and also has music, and at one point there’s a dance number, and you would think that would be cheesy as hell. No, it works, it really does.

Kathryn
Okay so I’m officially intrigued,

Elizabeth
Yeah, yeah. So once we get a chance to watch a few more episodes we’ll definitely talk about that, but, you know, all that and more pixelatedgeek.com. So next week, we still are not going to have a Night Vale episode yet?

Kathryn
Nope, they’re still on hiatus until February.

Elizabeth
Yeah. Did we have any live episodes that we haven’t watched yet, I think we’re pretty much caught up on everything right?

Kathryn
I think so, yeah.

Elizabeth
Wow, weird.

Kathryn
Well we’ll definitely find something to watch, maybe we can watch a couple episodes of Legion and talk about that.

Elizabeth
Yeah that works, or something, because we’re specific. But one way or the other, we will talk to everybody in one week.

Kathryn
Talk to y’all later.
