TapCity is telling the popular mobile app Four Square, “we love what you do, but we can do it better.” The newest city-exploring app is bringing a whole new dimension to the way you adventure (while you essentially play Monopoly with places you actually visit).
TapCity is slated to be released in the App store (no Android support? sad) at PAX East in a couple of weeks.
Want to compete with your friends for ownership of your “usual” hangout? Soon you will be able to. TapCity is really best described as Four Square and Monopoly combined. You will be able to buy, sell, defend, and conquer various locations around your city like restaurants and stores.
You will be able to collect rent from the places you own and earn rewards for previously undiscovered locations. What I find to be enticing about this particular app in comparison to others is that you will be able to challenge others for their properties.
I have to admit, this would be a fantastic marketing opportunity for many area businesses. For example, say your local mom and pop pizza restaurant offered a free in-game t-shirt or extra money for logging on inside their restaurants on Tuesday nights. While I don’t know if it would cause a dramatic shift in business, it may be worth a shot while helping people make a decision on where they want to go out to eat.
TapCity has taken advantage of Google maps and has some fun graphics to go along.
