Fans of the half-shell heroes rejoice: your time has come. Beginning in 2012, pre-teen and tween powerhouse Nickelodeon will air a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. Many rumors have circulated recently about Nickelodeon returning to its animation roots in light of its current, live-action tween show line-up. However, the new TMNT series is a rumor that is completely confirmed. The webpage Comics Alliance provides the scoop on the turtles and their new image:
“The Wall Street Journal reports the upcoming CG animated series is set to begin in 2012 and quotes the show’s executive producer Ciro Nieli as saying the Green Machines will have “more individual attributes” than in previous incarnations. Judging from Nickelodeon’s official promo image, those attributes include the original TMNT toys’ varied green hues, plus an assortment of athletic tape. I don’t blame them, smashing ninja foes like the Foot Clan surely leads to repetitive stress injuries.”
It looks promising, especially being in the hands of a channel that has always provided stellar animated series (especially those from the early 90s that inarguably changed children’s television). As for the franchise’s future in film, that’s for Michael Bay to decide.
