New Dragon Age teased with #TheDreadWolfRises video, blog

You’re right, Solas, we DO have questions. So many of them!

Dragon Age fans were given the smallest morsel of a tease for a new game Thursday night, one of the many new announcements at The Game Awards. A cryptic video was dropped without fanfare during the show. The teaser features what appears to be a statue coursing with red lyrium, a staff, and artwork of what appears to be Inquisition’s Solas and The Dread Wolf, an elven god. After some powerful Bioware-style music plays, an unknown speaker says, “So, you found me at last. I suspect you have questions.” The line is almost identical to that uttered by Solas at the end of the Trespasser DLC, though this voice sounds deeper and more harsh than the soft tones of the Solas players team up with in Inquisition. For better context as to what exactly is going on in the trailer, take a gander at the end of Trespasser, where the man himself explains things in hilarious fashion. Heavy spoiler warning, though!

Alongside the video, Bioware posted a blog by Mark Darrah and Matthew Goldman, in which they talk about the announcement. The game appears to be in the very early stages of development, with Bioware still being firmly focused on finishing Anthem, where Darrah is one of the top minds on the project. The next Dragon Age doesn’t appear to even have a name yet, so fans shouldn’t be waiting for more news anytime soon.

While an announcement that anything at all is coming is welcome, the fact that it appears to be so very far away does squash some of the excitement. With so many of the original minds behind the series having left in recent years, such as Mike Laidlaw and David Gaider, one can’t help but fear a repeat of the last time a major Bioware franchise got handed off to a less experienced team with Mass Effect: Andromeda. Whatever the future holds for this new Dragon Age game, we’ll have to wait … and wait … and wait … to see.
