Thanks to the dedicated efforts of some unknown reader trawling through the Activision/Bungie legal documents required for their upcoming deal, the gaming world may have some idea of when Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles will be available.
A title identified only as “Destiny Games #1” will be released for both the Xbox 360 and 720, “compatible” with both systems, in Fall 2013. This date isn’t surprising, particularly as Microsoft has said the 720 will not be shown on the E3 showfloor this year. Another title called “Comet #2” is listed for a Ps4 launch window of 2016, with “Comet #1” scheduled for PS3 release in 2014.
These release dates aren’t necessarily confirmation that the consoles will release at those times; after all, the titles may or may not be launch titles, and their release dates aren’t set in stone. A PS4 release three years after the XBox 720 would give Microsoft an enormous lead in next-generation market share. However, they’re all we’ve got at the moment, and the idea of a game compatible with both next-generation and current-generation consoles is an interesting possibility.
Thanks to SlashGear for details, and to the L.A Times, who’ve gone so far as to link the document on their site.
