Product Review: iPhone 4 Ballistic SG Series Case

When a new iPhone is released there is always that scramble to find that perfect case. I went through that very thing when picking up my iPhone 4. With a limited selection at both Apple and the AT&T stores my hopes were dashed. That was when Ballistic arrived on the scene. Previously I reviewed their first model for the iPhone the Ballistic HG. This time around they are debuting the Ballistic SG. Which is a more sleek and sexy case. I’ve had some hands on time with the SG. How does it compare to the HG? Does the SG hold up to the everyday iPhone use?

Full Review after the break.

Look
Let me start off by saying the SG is just flipping Sexy. I always liked the iPhone design but felt some of the cases really took away from it. The SG however compliments it, in a big way. There has never been a moment when I break out my phone and feel a tad bit embarrassed about the case. That being said the sexiness though comes at a cost.

Protection
While the SG certainly looks pretty it lacks a little in the Protection area. The case is 2 separate pieces. First a TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethanes) outer exterior that goes around the Phone. This is supposed to absorb the shock of a Drop. Followed by a impact resistant polycarbonate outer shell with a Rubberized backing. The front of the phone remain open with a raised border of TPU around the edges. Seems like it would survive most drops minus a Face Plant.

Feel
With the day to day use the Case holds up pretty well. When held in my hand it felt really solid. The TPU outer case feels kinda like a cross between Rubber and Plastic. Never felt like it was going to slip out of my hand. That being said I was also pretty impressed with the lack of weight. The case doesn’t really add any additional weight to the iPhone. Still keeps that very sleek feel.

Overall
Overall the SG is a pretty decent iPhone case. I really liked the overall aesthetics to the case and it had a really nice feel to it. I’m still a bit concerned with the Front Screen being as open as it is. I would recommend picking up a screen protector just in case.
