[Gadget Review] Scosche MotorMouth II

In my opinion, geeks do not need to wear a Bluetooth headset. A geek’s main communication tool is a computer or a laptop. The only time a geek would need to use a phone would be walking around or in the car. But in a geek’s everyday life, or at least mine, if I’m walking around or in a car, my main thought is I need to get somewhere.

The Scosche MotorMouth II is a gadget that may replace unneeded headsets. It can stream both music and call audio through your car speakers and has a microphone attached to the reciever. Check out my review below so you can understand why you do not need a Bluetooth headset.

The Details:

The Scosche MotorMouth II is a Bluetooth receiver and microphone that can stream your phone’s audio, music and calls over your car’s speakers via the auxiliary port. The receiver has a multi-function button and a microphone. The package also includes a “Y” adapter, car charger, USB charging cord, and extension cord connected to an optional mount. Here are some other quick details:

  • It can charge while in use
  • It has a 150 hour stand by time
  • It has a stream time of 5 hours when not on the charger
  • It takes 2 hours to charge
  • Retail Price $79.99

I liked the…

microphone quality of the receiver. During my week of real world testing, I switched between using the regular iPhone 3GS microphone and the MotorMouth II microphone. I also switched from having the windows rolled up and rolled all the way down while driving on the highway. I never told the persons on the other line which microphone I was doing. I just said that I’m testing my microphone quality and asked how well they could hear me.

Each time I switched to the MotorMouth II, the people say that I sounded more clear. Even when the windows were rolled all the way down. I’m a big fan of that since I want to enjoy the beautiful San Diego (whale’s vagina) weather while on a legal hands-free call.

I wasn’t a fan of…

always having to charge it. I would like to just “set it and forget it” in the car, but twice, the receiver has died on me. So, I had to make it a point to bring it in with me when I get home from work and charge it. Which is no big deal.

I’ve tried charging it during car rides and listening to music, but I would get noise from the charging.

Overall…

a really good gadget as a long as you keep it charged. The best part about the gadget is the clear microphone. Again, people on the other end of my calls say they can hear me better while on the MotorMouth II than the regular iPhone 3GS mic.

I would suggest this gadget to any geek that sits at a computer most of the time rather than a business guy who is walking around most of the time. Because, let’s face it, as a geek aren’t you using you computer as your main form of communication? So, why would you wear a Bluetooth headset all day long? Just get a mic for your car. It’s the only place where you don’t really have a computer.
