E3: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End wow’s at Sony’s Press Conference

Sony finished its E3 conference with a bang by showing gameplay of Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.  With the power of the Playstation 4, the demo shows the care and detail that Sony put into their newest entry into the Uncharted series.

As fans would expect, the Uncharted demo contained plenty of bombastic explosions and stunning set pieces. Whizzing down a windy road, Drake crashes through the environment in a race to reach his brother and escape an armored vehicle. While all this was incredible to see, what stood out the most was the attention to detail that the demo maintained throughout the craziness that occurred. Environments chipped away as enemy gunfire destroyed cover; the streets where filled with people that seemingly went about their day. Every little detail about the people and the environment in the game has been crafted with purpose and care.

One of the small details that caught my attention was how the sandbags that Drake hid behind slowly lost sand because of the gunfire. It is not something that needed to be there but was a small detail that helps make the world in Uncharted feel real and special. Of course, the hallmark, witty banter and giant explosions were there, but it’s all the small things that wowed me and that continue to demonstrate why Naughty Dog is one of the best developers out there.
